lulz ......my missus had one, excruciatingly slow, think she only rode it to work once.Me and the kids spent more time thrashing it round the back garden.

When I was a kid, they were the fastest, coolest sports bike on the planet (well, in my mind). These ones look more like some sort of bastardisation between a sports bike and an adventure bike.

Re: 1000 Katana
Hmm. I think the bars look fine and it's the drooping front end/headlight that looks wrong with them. On the pic with Barry S, the bars look similar but the front assembly is higher/closer to the bars. It seems to be the current fashion to have front ends that look like they're falling off.
Oh well, different strokes for different folks, the look seems to be popular.

The original 1000/1100 Katanas have low clip ons, the new one has ape hangers by comparison.

Re: 1000 Katana
Wossat one the Barry S is on? They don't look clip on (but do have a downwards rake) - but the higher fairing may make them look higher than they are?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 9:00 pm The original 1000/1100 Katanas have low clip ons, the new one has ape hangers by comparison.
I think it's just that I look and think 'that looks like a comfy riding position'

Re: 1000 Katana
The bars on that one look higher than I remember them being, but that bike also has fairing lowers, so could be different spec to the one I rode in 1988ish (so my memory of how low the bars were might well be wrong)

That silver one just looks like its a modern TDM. The green is gash but the blue does look rather nice

Re: 1000 Katana
Doesn't look too bad but I feel that the Katana title is going the way that Ninja did for Kawasaki where every fucking thing got a Ninja title and it means fuckall because of it.
Q "What bike have you got then"
A "Its a Ninja"
"Oh, the 250?"

Ninja's are cool, but are they Cowboy or Pirate cool?
Does a Katana even come close?

Then again 'Blackbird' doesn't exactly make much sense in an English country garden - nice birdies, eat worms, not very predatory (unless you're a worm).
Fazer? Phaser (on stun) would be better.
Hayabusa works

I'd take a ZX12R before either of them, but in reality I don't want any of them.

The 'Blackbird' was named after the SR71, not the feathered variety.
Yamaha had a Phazer, sadly a Dom mkt 250 with a 18k red line Sadly the Katana story was gen 1 Uber cool, gen 2 was funky, then it went out the window.
If anyone asks you what you ride and you say 'Busa', everybody nods sagely! Unsullied bloodlines work
