Just watched the 2 parter "Jimmy Saville: A British Horror Story" ... was a bit disappointing as it seem (to me at least) that they devoted more than half of the documentary saying how wonderful he was with all the charity work and royal connections.

Suicide Squad or The Suicide Squad?
Didn't know there were two. Sounds like watched the wrong one? This one had Batman in it and other marvel types.

Yeah "Suicide Squad" had Will "slappy" Smith in it and did feature Batman and the joker as small cameos, "The Suicide Squad" has Bigdris Elba in it basically being the Will Smith character and has a walking shark and strange weasel ... the firts one is panned but I liked it and the second one is praised and I didn't like it.

BBC Four Storyvilles are little hiddens gems at times. This one is strangely hypnotic. Every shot beautifully framed, no narrative, all in Italian (with subtitles) and a glimpse into the world of truffle hunting, which should be a peaceful pastime for elderly men, but is being taken over by organised crime and shady middle men.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0016489

Deep in the forests of Piedmont, Italy, a handful of elderly men hunt for the rare and expensive white Alba truffle. This award-winning film follows these truffle hunters, who live and work alongside their cherished dogs in an eccentric world, guided by a secret culture and a training passed down through the generations.

It doesn't. It just always baffles me that big screen adaptions of comics (graphic novels?) are so popular, for two main reasons. One is that the sheer premise of them is, let's be honest, silly. Walking, talking shark-creatures? Super villians? Nobody has sussed that Clark Kent is Superman? And why does everybody speak with such gravitas?
Secondly, that there are so many of them and they are very formulaic and incredibly forgettable*, despite the special effect (which they rely on, IMO, to cover up weak story lines). It's lazy film making by studios which are milking it for every penny at the expense, again IMO, of original films.

Sounds like I'm proper film snob, but I liked Sausage Party, so don't be getting ideas about me being all high brow or owt. ;)

* I have a nephew who I've sat with and watched a few, but don't ask me which ones. I only remember Deadpool as it had some funny lines in it and took the piss out of the genre.

Binge watched the new Katherine Tate comedy on Netflix "Hard Cell". Sitcom set in a women's prison and Tate plays several of the prisoners, the warden and a male guard (the weakest imho). It's quite funny and easy to watch.

My WIfe loves Catherine state. I'll let her know about that. She wants to see Nan, The Movie, is that on Netflix per chance?

Been re-watching Taboo on Netflix, with Tom Hardy.

Well played hardcore character.
Loving it.

Cinema Paradiso. One of my favourite foreign films and that little kid should have got an Oscar for his acting!

Netflix

Middlemitch and Schwartz

Couple of American comedians doing an improvised sketch.

This without doubt produced more laugh out loud moments from me than anything I've seen for a long time !*

Slow Horses on Apple TV

Best thing I’ve watched in years. Gary Oldman is mesmeric.

It's not exactly a box set but, available on BBC sounds are 5 episodes of The Essay from November 2019 (fans will know why that's relevant :D )

15 minutes each of 5 people presenting views on different aspects of Blade Runner. (Second best sci-fi film according to a programme on Sky Arts yesterday - they put Close Encounters at no. 1).

Probably only for BR fanbois and some are more interesting than others but, at 15 mins, not exactly a struggle to get through.

Do you like our owl Mr Deckard? :D
