INCOMING... the... errrm. Carbon Enduro/Trail thing...I dunno any more
Yesterday i went out with my lad and his buddies. He was testing the Whyte T-130.
The conclusion was "i don't like it at all"
So we swapped the stem, we swapped the bars, we moved the seat, we changed the suspension. The conclusion was "well I don't completely hate it... but I really don't like it"
I then got him to try my Trek Fuel, his mates new Trek Remedy and his other mates Specialzed FSR Stumpjumper. The only one he actually liked was the Stumpy, but that was a small and obviously too small for him.
So i had a bit of a chat with a guy on Ebay/Pinkbike, well technically 3-4 different guys and different bikes.
After some discussions at 417 Flyup today with 2 guys who owned 2 of the possibles from PB/Ebay, we ended up with a bit of a wild-card turning up at 417 while we were racing. The lad took it down Cheeseroller (a trail at 417) and really liked it. I was up at the top at the time waiting for my race, but when i got down i chatted to him and the guy and we made some suspension changes and sent him down again on it....
Once again he was happy.
So i gave him the option between this one and a 2017 Specialized Enduro, he picked this.
So after a discussion on the price, the guy took £200 less than i hoped to pay.... and i put it in the car.

It's a 2017 Santa Cruz Bronson CC.
Lets just say he's a very happy lad.... along with being a very lucky lad.
I now have a cheap Whyte T-130 to sell though.

Re: INCOMING... the... errrm. Carbon Enduro/Trail thing...I dunno any more
Bit of fun this morning, dialing in the gears which with the XT rear clutch being quite stiff, i'm not convinced they're fab.... so we may look into a SRAM shifter and mech for it pretty soon.
Bottle cage with relocator bracket so he's now got a decent sized bottle fitted.
His favourite and battered and bruised saddle has been fitted.
Little bit more pressure in the rear shock, but we may need to look into some volume spacers in there, he'll let me know in a while i hope

That's an odd brake set-up, double in the front, single at the back. Love those BOS forks, don't see many of those around now.
I'm sure he will have fun on it.

Nice, difficult to beat a SC for riding smiles (according to my mates that have them).
You should be shot for the state of your block paving though.........

Dunno, the place in Peaslake seem to have loads on Pinkbike quite often. This though is a 2017 model so a fair bit older, but does mean you get a brilliant bike and frame for crazy cheap money, considering this would now be something up about £6000, paying £1600 for it is bloody awesome !

It has been ads on FB, Sussex MTB, various other places - they are mega premium - but seem seem to be like BMW NineTs - people buy them - and then sell them 1 year later.weeksy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 11:08 amDunno, the place in Peaslake seem to have loads on Pinkbike quite often. They have a huge following with what we'd call the "DFL" crowd. Always have. There's brands in every sport that seem to build a very good reputation as being the one for that crowd and SC are definitely that in the MTB world - and that's not decrying their products at all, just most of the people that buy them It also means that they tend to churn their bikes quite often as being seeing on last year's model is so NOT happening and that makes the SH market for them absolutely great!

Does SC slow down their bikes a little every year so that after a few years you have to buy a new one?Beancounter wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 5:48 pmThe MTB equivalent of Apple then which isn't a bad thing.lostboy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 11:56 amThey have a huge following with what we'd call the "DFL" crowd. WEll it's gone back...
Within 10 mins of riding not only did we have the gearing issues, but we had a complete failure on the rear shock too.
I contacted the seller and he met us to check and decided to take it away and refund us... We were happy with that and we've moved on.
But onto what... i have absolutely fook all idea.

They make it harder to turn the cranks. That way the punters think they are getting unfit and buy an ebikeirie wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 9:12 pmDoes SC slow down their bikes a little every year so that after a few years you have to buy a new one?Beancounter wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 5:48 pmThe MTB equivalent of Apple then which isn't a bad thing.lostboy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 11:56 am

Trek must do the same because after riding Trek Fuel EXs for a year* we sold them and bought Trek Rails in January. * might have had something to do with riding ever more gnarly stuff we were finding ourselves increasingly pushing our bikes up hills. And not getting any younger.

Re: INCOMING... the... errrm. Carbon Enduro/Trail thing...I dunno any more
Today was the first real Trail ride on the Trek. We were at FoD and I know the trails fairly well, having ridden them plenty.
I guess the proof of the pudding is in the Strava. I rarely use it these days but was interested to get times.
The Trek isn't as plus as the G170 was, but I think was it loses in comfort and bump niceness, it makes up for in speed.
I was running slightly wide every now and again, but overall I was happy.
My lad was being coached and he was watching someone on Launchpad, "is that your dad" she said to him.
My lad replied with "no, he didn't brake in that corner it can't be him"
But it was me! Ha ha.
