No one will capture you on your favourite blast through the countryside and maybe it’s what’s needed to stop people blasting through 30s where there’s a genuine point to the speed limits. We regularly have people coming through our village at properly dangerous speeds.

Re: Speeding - New App
Yeah our village is the same. It's a cut through from Hoddesdon to Hertford and during the school run times I reckon 20-40% are doing 30 as we have one of those speed warning signs. Often a large percentage go through with it showing 'Too fast', some take the absolute piss overtaking other cars doing well over 40.dern wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 9:25 am No one will capture you on your favourite blast through the countryside and maybe it’s what’s needed to stop people blasting through 30s where there’s a genuine point to the speed limits. What's most annoying its a 40 either side of the village and often I pull out of my road with space to clear then have someone close the gap and tailgate me through the village but when you speed up the other side they get to 40 and stop. So effectively as far as I can tell they do the usual thing of doing 40 whatever the hazards. They are often the same people who do 40's in 60 limits.
Had a classic 2 weeks ago. Was doing 40, slowed to 30 through the village and then spotted a camera van on the verge. BMW behind me was right up my chuff and then pulled out with about 150 meters to go to the camera van and blasted passed Stupid thing is he then pulled into the pub about half a mile up in the village. Hope that twat got a ticket. The camera van wasn't even trying to hide either and covered in 'Police' and 'Camera' stickers.

We get the same and most evenings when I'm walking the dog I'll get passed by someone doing 50, and at least once a week way north of that... no exaggeration. The people blasting through late at night tend to be younger but the people doing 40-50 are more often than not middle aged people like the people who live there.

Re: Speeding - New App
So basically the developers of this app want to encourage people to go round reporting people for minor traffic offences, there will be people who sit at 55mph on 60mph roads just so they can report people who over take them.

I mean, you've just made a judgement, like, on the developers and the potential users so you might be rightLe_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:19 am So basically the developers of this app want to encourage people to go round reporting people for minor traffic offences, there will be people who sit at 55mph on 60mph roads just so they can report people who over take them.

It's been something people have been doing in the UK through the national dash cam safety portal for a while now.

Yup often it's the people living in the village themselves. Or a mummy wagon with 2 kids in the car probably cos it's not 'safe' to take them to school in anything other than a 2 ton SUV doing 40 passed my kids.dern wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:01 am We get the same and most evenings when I'm walking the dog I'll get passed by someone doing 50, and at least once a week way north of that... no exaggeration. I'm not whiter than white when it comes to speed but this thread back in 2007 on pistonheads put the f*cking wind up me and made me thing about things slightly differently... https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/top ... 42266&i=40. It's about a guy on their called 10 Pence Short who was out enjoying his car, lost control and took out a motorcycle in a split second. He talks about what happened and his time in prison.

I frequently got overtaken in my village when I was doing 30mph on my scooter. Never got overtaken when riding a motorbike at the same speed. And yes, many of those that overtook me lived in the village too.dern wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 9:25 am No one will capture you on your favourite blast through the countryside and maybe it’s what’s needed to stop people blasting through 30s where there’s a genuine point to the speed limits. I've been driving vans for years and the amount of people that have pulled out in front of me so they don't get stuck behind a van, then held me up while driving well below the speed limit !Whysub wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 3:41 pmI frequently got overtaken in my village when I was doing 30mph on my scooter. I had exactly the same when I had my Vito, turned off the daytime running lights and it became less frequent - go figure?Jody wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 7:26 amI've been driving vans for years and the amount of people that have pulled out in front of me so they don't get stuck behind a van, then held me up while driving well below the speed limit !Whysub wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 3:41 pmI frequently got overtaken in my village when I was doing 30mph on my scooter. "Liked" not because I actually like it, but because it's interesting (and more than a bit disturbing!) to read it from the other side so to speak.dern wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 12:14 pm I'm not whiter than white when it comes to speed but this thread back in 2007 on pistonheads put the f*cking wind up me and made me thing about things slightly differently... https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/top ... 42266&i=40. Try driving a Mitsubishi Lancer that looks like an Evo if you don't really know what an Evo looks like, the spoiler is an idiot magnet, loads of people have to "prove" they're faster than an Evo.inewham wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 6:09 pm Some people drive with their egos and can't bear to be behind a scooter. Maybe I'm getting old and slow but the standard of driving has got even worse since lockdown and people have only got themselves to blame

and looked standard unless you really lookwd and saw the big brake discs and calipers, and a larger exhaust tip. All other mods were under the bonnet, and it was only lowered slightly so still looked standard.
"Sleeper" is where it is at with quick cars.

Having ridden a number of scooters over the years, I can definitely confirm that! They are like a red rag to a bull in a lot of cases!! Doesn't matter if you're in a queue behind a load more bikes, a lot of bikers will just have to get passed the scooter and at any cost in some cases! Had a few near misses due to ridiculous overtakes from bikes!inewham wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 6:09 pm Some people drive with their egos and can't bear to be behind a scooter.
