More on bat flatteries

I bought a new battery for the Griso last summer - a Yuasa YTX 16 from Halfords. Then just before Xmas, the Griso failed it's MOT, and it's been SORNed up, while I try to source some fork bits. So it's stood for about 3 months.

I expected it to be flat. So I put it on the optimate. Zilch. The Optimate doesn't even register it is there. Ive still got the previous battery, which was knackered. The Optimate recognises that - it fails the test, but it can see it.

What's going on? Have I killed it? I know I've neglected it a bit, but should it survive that?

I've had trouble with an Optimate charger declaring batteries dead when I didn't think they were, do you have a more basic charger you can try?

Put a bulb accross the terminals and then put the optimate on.

I bought one of these a while ago and have have some success charging dead batteries with it...

There's a force mode that will attempt to charge a battery even with zero volts showing.

Can't help with the battery, had a Li-on on my Griso over past 2 winters without optimate or charge required. Laid up October - March both times and started no problem.

Is there a warranty on your battery?

I can't see how what you have done is 'not looking after it' it's designed to be fitted to a vehicle and start it.

I can't see how what you have done is 'not looking after it' it's designed to be fitted to a vehicle and start it.

Halfords have a fairly unconditional warranty on batteries, should be fine.

I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure I got a Yuasa* for the K12R just before I sold it to the Priest, and it needed the acid installing.

Yes, it was pre filled. Its a YTX16. The YTX16-BS is the one with a bottle of acid

The bad news is that it's dead. Three different battery chargers confirm that it's not interested. It is an ex battery. It has ceased to be. It is no more.
The good news is that Halfords had cunningly sent me the receipt by email. So I had proof of purchase. And they gave me a brand spanking new one.

I'll take better care of this one. But big up Halfords.
