I didn't have a choice. The electric meter's display failed so it had to be replaced.

My meter just gave up reading anything at all.

I suppose I could have just left it and got "free" gas forever, but I suspect that particular trick wouldn't have been permanent and would have come back to bite me!

Oh, they'll get everyone on them eventually - move house, meter fails, meter replacement programmes etc etc but I'll resist while I can. Not in an 'over my dead body' way, just passively.

Partly because I'm irritated by the 'it'll save me money' nonsense - no it won't it'll save the supplier money, so cut me in on the saving.
Partly because the idea of some spod in a call centre seeing consumption flat line when I'm on holibobs doesn't fill me with joy.
Partly because of the dog's breakfast they've made over systems compatibility from generation 1 meters to generation 2 meters.

Definitely saved me money. They messed about for so long that I quoted their service promise back to them and received compo

The display now sits on the kitchen worktop.

Unplugged, flat battery. I'm not paying (albeit a pittance) to charge it

Smart meters only save you money because it allows you to identify when you're using loads of juice - that's it. Normally it's obvious when you're using lots of juice though, you've got loads of lights on or are running 17 fan heaters

Mostly though, I like not having to go outside to the meter cupboard. I found that I was being consistently overcharged and then receiving 'corrections' because they overestimate how much power I'm using. I CBA to manually upload readings every week to stop them doing that, so at least the smart meter saves me that hassle.

I do wonder WTF everyone else uses so much power for though. We don't live like monks, we just have a few sensible habits (that is like I monk I suppose) and LED lights etc.

MiL got a smart meter display plugged in her kitchen. Tells her how many £ and P she has spent that day on gas/leccy, doesn't save any though.

When the price cap is raised on April fools day, does that mean our suppliers will increase their rates by same amount.

Indeed, just a bit tricky given that I kitesurf on the sea which is 9+ miles from home. Also ride a mountain bike on the South Downs 6+ miles from home so doing that at home is equally tricky.

Put wheels on the board thingy. Its getting a big thing here now in East Lothian. Either that we are on some best spots location list But an area called Longniddry Bents at car park three is very popular with kite surfing.
