Technical term is………..

Cunted!

In all my years as being a mechanic etc and working on cars bike etc, this is the lowest voltage I’ve came across and it boils down to a stupid fucking alarm system.

I have a spare lying around so it’s not a big problem, another job ticked off the list on the wife’s bike, still a few things to do then it’ll be up for sale.

Talking to a bloke the other day who has a Datatool tracker on his bike. He has to disconnect it because it flattens his battery within a week and as he stores it outside he can't hook it up to an optimate. So if his bike gets stolen in winter he wont be getting it back. :wtf:

If something like this

worked, it could be cheaper than theft excess.

Or could he buy a second battery, swap every few days? Faff, but ...

Could extend the charger’s 12V leads out to a bike in the back yard.

Or ... have the second, charged, battery, piggy-backed on to top-up the installed battery?

Every time I buy a bike with an alarm on it I ask them to remove it before I collect it. Having been stranded overnight at a services on the m6 by a datatool alarm I never want to see one of the things again.

Datatool don’t care who they leave stranded as long as the bike doesn’t move.

I had one on a s/h bike that started immobilising the bike while I was riding it. Frequently. So, no engine, no brake servo...

I asked the dealer to exorcise it and got it done just before a long trip across Europe. I go cold at the thought that it could have kicked off during the trip. Never, never, ever again.

Charged up the spare I’ve got and stuck it in the bike to see if the neutral switch is good which it is, can leave positive feedback on Evilbay now.

Datatool packed up on one bike on a group ride at a petrol station in the middle of nowhere, early afternoon in the Alps.

Fortunately, we had enough tools / knowledge in the group and managed to disconnect it.

The one on my GSX-R was disconnected, but still brought the bike to a stop when one of the joined wires corroded out inside the shrink-wrap tubing... the solder looked perfect but the copper inside was green dust. There was JUST enough wire for me to strip a little back from either side and twist together and stick a bit of electrician's tape over it. It was still running like that several years later!

I know alarms were traditionally a pain in the derrière, but apparently, things have improved depending on the instillation :?:
Motorcycle alarms: More hassle than they’re worth?

Also, have many of the alarm issues been with Datatool in recent years? In 2017, Datatool recalled all its S4 Red series alarms because of a problem. Some Datatool systems may have missed the recall (e.g. alarms fitted to bikes sold on to new owners).

We have a 66 plate Harley at the base at the moment with an alarm fitted. We went to start it 3 days after it was delivered from the dealer in full working order and the battery was fooked. It now sits on a permanent Optimate supplied by the dealership

Battery kept going dead on my BMW, replaced it and same thing happened, spoke to the bloke at work who used to spanner for the dealer and he said it was pretty much par for the course. Of course a normal optimate was no good, had to buy the CANBUS one. In contrast my Bandit has sat since 2019 and started first prod. That battery has been in the bike since 2005.

I'm surprised that there isn't an increased insurance loading on bikes with a Datatool alarm fitted cos the owners must be more likely to cover the bike in petrol and set it on fire.

My 59 plate XJ6 has just started after three months of standing still. No alarm of course, just a little flashing red immobiliser LED.

Not QUITE first prod of the button, but I just spun it over a couple of times and it picked up. It's on the original battery by the way. I've had a Shido Li-ion one waiting on the shelf for almost three years since I picked it up in a sale... still not needed.
