Street triple not starting
My mate has a 2011 Street Trip R he bought last year it's a 2011. Was running fine when put away now it won't start. He has dash and lights but won't turn over at all. He replaced the battery thinking it was that but same result. His mate then suggested replacing the main fuse but same result. He's tried the kill switch too and that's off.

11 years old, is 11 years past the alarm / immobiliser best before date.
If it's got a factory fitted one I'd start with junking that, he'll just need the bypass jumper to plug in its place.
If it ain't that, or the sidestand switch, check the clutch switch, if it ain't not any of them chuck in in a canal and claim off the insurance

I had a friend whose side stand switch went on a Street Triple - same model. The bike just stopped while he was riding it in the middle of Wales. He phoned the dealer who said to cut one of the wires to bypass it - it was one of two wires that looked the same. It was like watching someone disarm a bomb. Cut the correct one and you carry on your holiday. Cut the wrong one, holiday over and get your own recovery as the RAC wont pick you up because you broke it yourself.
Anyway - try that for the shits and giggles.

Not sure I'd wanna chance that 50/50 on the wires if they look the same!

Kill switch, clutch switch or sidestand switch most likely, all can be bypassed relatively easily, though some kill switches have an anti theft resistor and won't work if you short out the contacts - later Fireblades are like this.

If it were the side stand switch it should still start if in neutral, the side stand switch is only when in gear, that’s why most people either experience it cutting out when on the go or when they put it in first gear. It could be clutch switch if it has to be pulled in for starting, like a lot of bikes. Is the neutral light coming on?
If the fuel pump primes but it doesn’t turn over then either try bridging the starter relay or activating the starter directly with 12v.
Is there any clicking as such?

With regards to the side stand switch most you have to connect the two wires to bypass the switch and if it were a case of snipping one to bypass it either would do the same job, it’s purely for completing a circuit, the side stand down breaks the circuit meaning it can’t be started when in gear, if in neutral then it doesn’t matter what the side stand is doing.Trinity765 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 25, 2022 7:36 amI had a friend whose side stand switch went on a Street Triple - same model. I seem to remember that my 2004 Tiger 955i would turn over when in neutral and side stand down but wouldn't fire. Caused me some embarrassment.... But it was a long time ago so memory may be faulty.

He's booked it into a shop now for Thursday. Because it’s not priming then it could be neutral switch or clutch switch. Has he tried sitting on the bike with the clutch in side stand up etc? Has he confirmed it’s showing neutral with the ignition on?
I’ve just double checked because I wasn’t convinced.
So the clutch switch doesn’t affect the fuel pump priming, if the side stand is down, and the bike sees neutral when you turn the ignition on the fuel pump primes, so regardless of whether the clutch switch is faulty or not it will do this, so if it doesn’t it has to be either neutral light, fuel pump itself or the wiring to do with these.
The clutch switch is only for starting the bike.
Possibly side stand switch or relay as well, I wouldn’t have thought so but would bypass it just to rule it out.

I think it involves hanging out with teenagers although seems air cadets shoot air rifles these days rather than proper guns

As did we when it was a normal weekly meeting / parade way back more than 30 years ago, the SLR's, 22's, 303's, L98's were only shot when on air bases, along with a fair few other nice rifles & pistols we weren't allowed to put in out 3822's
