MotoGP round 2. Indonesia.

Post by weeksy »

So then, we're onto round 2 on the dust B road that is Indonesia.

It didn't seem like anyone approved of pre-season testing there, so interesting to see how it goes.

I'm taking Marquez from Martin and a resurgent Miller to hit 3rd spot on the podium.

Indonesian MotoGP: Michelin confirms 'modified' tyre allocation for Mandalika

Michelin calls up 'special casings' to control tyre temperatures during this weekend's Indonesian MotoGP at Mandalika.

Michelin has officially confirmed that it will supply a 'modified' tyre allocation to this weekend's Indonesian MotoGP, compared to last month's test.

By the end of MotoGP's dusty three-day Mandalika debut in February, it was highly rumoured that the faster soft compound rear tyre would be replaced for the race weekend.

Many, but not all riders, adjusted their race simulations accordingly, with Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia explaining:

"It's difficult to say who was the fastest because the worst tyre was the medium, but it is the only one they will bring for the race weekend, because they will not take the soft."

Upon confirming that the tyre allocation has indeed been altered for the inaugural Mandalika race weekend, Michelin Motorsport's Two-Wheel manager Piero Taramasso explained that the compounds will actually be the same but paired with a 'special casing'.

“The test days here were very positive from a tyre perspective, but we quickly realised that because of a combination of the new track surface, the fast layout and the high temperatures, that the tyres were being stressed too much and overheating," Taramasso said.

If tyres are an issue,Marquez is known to be fast on worn out rubber. He may be the man to beat this weekend

I reckon its a bit of a lottery, there's lots of confidence in some quarters and bewilderment in others. Friday's sessions with the tyres supplied will be really interesting.
I'm doubly interested because I want to get really well clued up across the whole grid as we (the wiltshire contigent) are off to portimao next month

Not seen any actual practice footage, but Crash.net is reporting that MM93 was showing signs of desperation at his lack of qualifying progress and over-riding the bike leading to two practice crashes. As a result he's only qualified in 14th place.

Marc Marquez has been declared unfit to race in today's Indonesian MotoGP following a colossal accident in morning warm-up at Mandalika.

Hospital checks subsequently revealed the Spaniard suffered a 'head concussion'.

"It's been strange because Marc had three big crashes and we have to understand why," Repsol Honda team manager Alberto Puig told Dorna's Simon Crafar.

"The crash today was brutal. We need to anaylse. They [Michelin] brought a different tyre here and we need to understand everything. Our rider crashed and we want to understand [why]."

Im getting worried by MM. I would have hoped that his extended time out from the sport due to crash damage might have given him pause to reflect. Apparently not. If he carries on like this there's a risk that he'll sideline himself permanently. I know this risk is always present for all riders, but MM takes it to another level.

I know a rugby international who was sidelined for months with severe concussion. It'll be interesting to see how many races MM misses.

I was up all night with man flu so watched it all.At one point I thought there might not be a main event, but actually, it was a really interesting race, despite the wet conditions. Fabio must be really chuffed.

MM's high side was a strange one, 110 mph and not in a place you'd have thought it would happen, I reckon it really took him by surprise rather than him testing where the limit was. Scary stuff.

At least with all that rain they wouldn't be worrying about dust off the racing line...

MM's highside looked really vicious. No wonder Puig is concerned.
