Yup as tricky says, on the road they go well and the QS and blipped are great. On track they verge on dangerous. Couldn’t stop mine weaving and wallowing with sticky tyres on. So much so I left it in the garage and took my sorted SV650 out. A very unstable bike when pushed. My bro bought one 3 years ago, engine always sounded very mechanical but dealer said they all do that, it imploded at 14k miles with a full BMW history, dealer said they don’t all do that

Re: Bike consolidation
BMW dealers are good at that, they get plenty of practice. A customer's husband used to work in BMW technical, never ending source of horror stories - I see the Police are having trouble with the engines on some of their fleet of beemers - won't affect Joe public's cars thoughCouchy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 7:47 pmYup as tricky says, on the road they go well and the QS and blipped are great. Hmm, ok, I'll pass on that idea then. I had a gs that was pretty shite build quality wise but thought that they may have improved. Seemed ideal for what I want but coupling the build quality with the high speed issues and it makes less sense than buying another KTM.

You only need to have a nose at the Teapot 1 videos on YT to see how well the build quality of "the best bike ever" is going* I'm still astounded by the following that they have for a brand that clearly has the issues that it has.dern wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 11:30 am Hmm, ok, I'll pass on that idea then. *I don't, often, but my Dad does - and he's had two Pans (an 1100 and 1300) after a succession of BMWs, all of which caused him endless problems. He loves pointing out when dear old Teapot 1s BMWs let him and his mates down.

Re: Bike consolidation
The paint on my 690s frame had lifted like a bit of old garden furniture and every bolt was rusty. Wiring looked like something out of a 60s Fiat too. Great fun to ride though...

Re: Bike consolidation
I put the hand guards on mine last weekend as I didn't have any bar ends and wanted to keep the brake lever guard. Rode it for 70 miles today and it didn't feel any different than without them.Couchy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 7:54 pmThat’s how all my 950SM have been, they are fine up to about 80 and on twisty back roads. I always thought the handuards as well as mudguards were to blame but never got round to fixing it if indeed it was possible.Tricky wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 10:05 amThat sounds so similar to the view I had of mine - I had the 950 SM R. When I bought it, it was really as so many people on TRC (or may have even been VD) raved about them, and I loved the looks, and V twins in general so thought it would be my perfect bike
I think some of the problem was that I also had a Tuono at the time, and decent as it was, the KTM engine was a bit lacking compared to the Rotax V60 , even with the X-Bikes tune.
Mine was also very twitchy too and would wobble and weave quite scarily north of 100- I fannied around playing with suspension, fork and ride height etc and swapping tyres, but the high-speed scariness was always there, I strongly suspect due to the front mudguard, albeit I never proved it, as looks aside, the bike was just a bit meh for me and didn't stick around that long as a result
