Speed triple 955i
Speed triple 955i
Idly browsing eBay and have found a potential 955i, highush mileage but looks well maintained from the pics.
If I decide to go and view it what sort of things should I be looking for specific to the bike?
Buyers guides online tend to be a bit generic, look at the tyres are the forks leaking etc..

The starter motor may spin a lot but not turn the engine over much.

Re: Speed triple 955i
The later swingarm is Good News, as it probably means the linkage bearings were serviced at the same time, or at least replaced with good used. At the very least, you know the bolt in the swingarm came out relatively recently.

Re: Speed triple 955i
Is it just me, but...
New bars, clocks, indicators, rear sets, swingarm and frame covers = crashed.
Might be worth asking if he has the original parts in case you want to put it back to stock, if they don't have them it's deffo crashed.

I appear to be suffering a bit of budget creep...
An easy fix or potential money pit with no end in sight?

Starter motor needs replacing if it's not starting when hot.BBB wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 12:31 pm I appear to be suffering a bit of budget creep...

I've had the same problem with my Tiger and the starter cost over £400 iirc. Step 1 in the maintenance manual..... To replace the starter motor, first remove the engine.
I didn't and it was fiddly as hell to do, but I managed it in the end

Re: Speed triple 955i
Can also be voltage drop caused by poor quality starter cables, a common issue and upgrade on the 1050's. Also, and funnily enough as I only did this job yesterday on my ST1050, is the brushes wear on the starter motor - £30 kit resolved the issue. Starter easy to remove once the oil line is disconnected, a nightmare otherwise.Taff wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 12:48 pmStarter motor needs replacing if it's not starting when hot.BBB wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 12:31 pm I appear to be suffering a bit of budget creep...

Re: Speed triple 955i
Had read about the starter issues, asked the seller if it spins when hot and it does but doesn't fire up and it does. Going to see if I can have a look at the weekend to see if it's a slow spin or possibly another issue.

Re: Speed triple 955i
There was, the old / original ones let water in which sat in the plug holes causing agro / rust etc. It's the reason one of the cylinders on mine had 2 spark plug washers as one bugger down got stuck in place.KungFooBob wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 2:27 pm Is it me, or do I remember there being issues with stick coils on these?
But they should be cheap enough to replace if they haven't been already.
Now if you'll excuse me I need a sit down, it's not often there's a bike thread on here that I know shit about
