Has the UK paid Iran £400m?
Just pondering.
A brief history from memory:
Back in the 70's Iran ordered a lot of tanks and other stuff from the UK and handed over £400m up front. Then the revolution and Ayatollah Khomeini and sanctions and the order was never even started, but the UK kept the money. Iran takes UK to some international court who say the money belongs to Iran, but sanctions. Move on a bit, skip a lot of detail and Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is on a plane home because there's British negotiators in the country.
Has Britain handed over the money and will we see Iranian oil being delivered to UK ports?

The reason we didn't pay what we owed (recently anyway) was supposed to be American sanctions on Iran so, if the money has been paid back, Biden must have authorised it. No-one has credited him with getting the hostages released yet though. The money is supposed to be used for humanitarian purposes.....so the Iranians will probably send it to Russia.

Here's a theory. We didn't repay the debt. Iran wants Saudi to think we did. Is it coincidence that they released the hostages on the same day that Our Glorious Leader put his dignity in the cupboard and waddled off to meet the chief head hunter, cap in one hand and petrol can in the other? He's going to get a bit of a grilling about any new entente with Iran.
(Either that or it's a cunning plan by Tank Girl to undermine her boss, but I don't think she's that bright).

Biden has recently decided to steal the sovereign wealth fund from Afghanistan. Is he gonna encourage giving back money to Iran?Count Steer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 10:20 pm'Tank Girl' is now 'Tankmoney Girl'.slowsider wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 10:01 pm The lovely Liz Truss is taking the credit (sic)

That is what I understood - whilst we owed the money , the UK had not stumped up as it was seen by the US and "funding terrorists". Hence there must have been a thawing of relations all around - perhaps because of the threat of Russia's aggression.Count Steer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 10:20 pm'Tank Girl' is now 'Tankmoney Girl'.slowsider wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 10:01 pm The lovely Liz Truss is taking the credit (sic)

Iran is probably looking for a new weapons supplier after watching how good Russian stuff is.

Or Britain is looking for somewhere to buy oil from, and Iran doesn't seem so bad as they haven't invaded any countries.
