My old colleague used to leave his carbon BMC bike unlocked outside CooP every lunchtime, it was fine. The key is to not live in the grim north.

It was obviously tongue-in-cheek but that's the big pain in the arse when we come home, I have to tell the kids to lock doors, don't leave valuables on the dashboard when we leave the car, lock the front door, be careful walking around London in a t-shirt and an expensive watch, etc.

Don't leave your bicycle outside the shop or it'll get pinched - the last time my lad went to the UK he left his snazy Wethepeople bike outside Asda and was really surprised when he came out and it was gone.

Go careful if you go out drinking, don't go to certain places, etc.
They're really not used to any sort of burglary, violent street crime or robbery or car theft.

Not to mention every time we go somewhere and I leave my Landrover parked up I'm always expecting it not to be there when we come back.

So yeah, a bit of Thursday lunchtime fun but it doesn't half piss you off when you're used to no crime and you come back to a nation of thieving bastards.

There are roads and houses down there and a village somewhere just off to the right + Gatwick off to the left. On a clear day you can see the sea. Not long ago the Weald was a place you tried to avoid as it was pretty lawless. Lots of old smugglers tracks to the coast and lots of long barns that you could drive the horses+wagon full of booze and baccy into sharpish without unhitching them. Some of the MTBers on here should recognise it as it's taken from Leith Hill tower where there's a café in the base of the tower. (It's not my photo).
