A vegan-only food policy branded "utter madness" by TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has been adopted by a council.

It means only plant-based meals will be served at Oxfordshire County Council events and vegan options will be on school menus.

But council leader Liz Leffman said: "We're not going to pin people down and force them to eat vegan food, I can promise you that... the important thing here is that we're leading by example."

So if vegan food is the only option but you don't want to eat it, then the only alternative is not eating. Ah well, I guess that'll save the planet.

If you want food to be as carbon neutral as possible then eat stuff produced locally and farmed with being low carbon in mind, this can include meat. A radical idea, but it might just work.

It's a long time since I was at school eating locally sourced food, lovingly cooked in the school kitchen. I believe kitchens and cooks were done away with a long time ago, being replaced with freezers and microwaves. Is this still the case?

Our local school still has a kitchen but they make it difficult to buy dinners, they prefer selling expensive snacks.
