A vegan-only food policy branded "utter madness" by TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has been adopted by a council.

It means only plant-based meals will be served at Oxfordshire County Council events and vegan options will be on school menus.

But council leader Liz Leffman said: "We're not going to pin people down and force them to eat vegan food, I can promise you that... the important thing here is that we're leading by example."

So if vegan food is the only option but you don't want to eat it, then the only alternative is not eating. Ah well, I guess that'll save the planet.

If you want food to be as carbon neutral as possible then eat stuff produced locally and farmed with being low carbon in mind, this can include meat. A radical idea, but it might just work.

It's a long time since I was at school eating locally sourced food, lovingly cooked in the school kitchen. I believe kitchens and cooks were done away with a long time ago, being replaced with freezers and microwaves. Is this still the case?

TBH some of the food is half decent, some isn't.

They also all have the option of a salad bar now too which seems quite popular.

The local council here had shit food in their canteen. I remember attending many meetings at the Council House and used to bring my own packed lunch knowing the cooked food would be pretty dire. However, i attended a meeting many years ago in a big converted house turned council office with the director of I.T and they had a fucking 3 course meal on offer, twas chicken casserole if i remember correctly, i had seconds....
