Only watched enough to see that the 600 pilot is the better rider. A good rider on a litre bike will always beat a good rider on 600 bike.

Don't be ridiculous, haven't you seen everyone in WSB using 600s when they could use 1000s?

I freely admit I'm not good enough to use a 1000 anywhere near it's limits, I might be able to ride a 600 to it's limits, but I'm not convinced of that, a 400 I can definitely use all the power, all 60bhp.

I've only ever been an inters rider, I got on the podium in a couple of club races but I was trying very hard.

One of the things I used to really enjoy, in a light-hearted way, was riding my TZR250 out here at the shortened Yas and the Autodrome, it was usually the only <1000cc bike and I had so much fun getting past the big bikes. For most of us at club level and below the CC isn't that important unless you've got big straights and so people thought I was loads better than I really am because I could dice it with superbikes on the short circuits.

It was like racing at Three Sisters, the open class was regularly won by a bloke on an RS125 - he was quick though, IIRC went on to win nationals at 125cc.

In MX my mate preferred his YZ250 than a 450, so he put 450 stickers on it and raced it in the 450 class with AMCA and ACU events. He was rarely out of the top half dozen. He got the odd complaint by people who knew but the organisers always swallowed his story of it having a big bore kit.

It got me quite excited- could be me on my green bike at Cartagena in a couple of weeks time with the 1000 boys - well, in my dreams, it can, anyway

Maybe I'll fit a camera and see if I can recreate something similar ( and hopefully not embarrass myself too much in the process )

I have never raced but from watching on TV and spectating at numerous Irish road races, on most of the tight circuits there is not a lot of difference between the 600's and 1000's - very occasionally a rider will compete in the 1000 on a 600 but I have never seen a win on one. The 1000's are definitely quicker but only in the hands of those nutters . On the more open circuits, NW200, IOM - no contest the 1000's are quicker.
