Aye- I've no personal experience of them, but live 10 mins down the road from them and it appears as a bit of a looky-likey set-up to me , not of course necessarily an issue if you're comfortable with what you're buying and not looking for any after sales , but definitely a place to buy from with your eyes wide open I'd say

Oh and if you do, that chavvy fakeapovic would have to go, yuck! :D

Oh, is that a fake? I have no idea, I'll do some reading so I know better, thanks :)

I checked the place out on google maps yesterday and it does look like a dump.

I just need more patience really... I just need it now ;)

Isn't @Wull selling to a place that specialises in Gixxers? Is it this lot?

Only popped in there once when deciding the toss between a k1300s & r1200gs and I'd tend to agree with Tricky on their assessment of the place.

Anyone had a BMW S1000R Sport? One for sale near me and looks tidy and good value. Are they any good for playing on the roads?

The guy I bought my current bike from had one and he loved it. I have only ridden the RR and, whilst it was great fun, I was glad to hand it back as the riding position killed me. Personally, I would be concerned about the brand issues.

I've never owned one, but one of my best mates has had a 2014 one from new and I have done lots of European and Scotland tours with him, and I have done a good few miles on it on those trips

Almost every time I've ridden it it when we've been doing swapsies between it and one of my MT10s ( I had 2) or my old 790 Duke.
My view is that there is no doubt that the S1000R is a very good bike, but I just found it a bit bland (as much as any bike with 150+ HP can be of course) and character-less- we both preferred the MT, and his comment sort of summed it up for me and that was that the Bimmer felt like the UJM bike, and the MT felt much more raw and European (read characterful)
In riding position and feel, the S1000 feels very much like a sportbike with flat bars on, whereas an MT10 feels more like a more bouncy raked out supermoto/adventure bike on steroids
Oh and the MT10 (and very nearly my 790 too) would always win the flat-out straight line speed races, not because it was necessarily faster flat out, as I don't think it really would have been, but his S1000 gets pretty scary at 130+- he's an ex-Bemsee racer so enjoys using it and has tried numerous things to sort it but it has always had a ponderous wobbly high speed feel that he's never managed to get rid of which we think is the active suspension.
The best way I can describe it is when you are really pushing on it's like you can't feel the front end at all, and give it some bumps or fast direction change and it gets quite scary so he (and I when I was riding it) would always end up backing off before it's time. His is a very early one though so maybe they've got better- _ don't think it was just his particular one though as ISTR @Couchy had one too and some similar experiences on track

All the niggly (and not so niggly) issues I have had with the two I have owned (and the many more I have ridden). Iffy finish, hit and miss build quality, hit and miss dealerships.
I know the dealership issues could be said of many, no matter what brand, but my experience of BMW Motorrad aftersales has been the most expensive and unsatisfactory of them all.

That sort of echoes what I perceived from the Irish racers - I seem to recall that when the BMW RR came out it was the most powerful litre bike, everyone expected it to do really well, took years to get any consistency from them.

I was looking at all sorts of stuff at the weekend, so many good bikes available. I did remember that the most fun I ever had on a test ride was on a cbr600rr, can't recall what year it was, possibly a 2009. Started looking at those too but goodness know what they'd be like now I've been on bigger engined bikes for a few years.

What you want is a nice BMW F700GS, one that's been factory lowered.

I might just know where you can get a minter!

If I was looking for another bike, both the MT10 and ZH2 would be on the radar. Especially the ZH2.

I bought practically the same fake end can for my 1997 CBR600 F3 when the standard endcan rotted out. Paid £23 for it on ebay, and to be honest, thought it would last a couple of years, seeing as I commuted on the Honda all year round.

7 years later the can was still on the bike, and in good condition. Not much louder than standard, and bike ran no differently.

Not a bad replacement if funds are tight.
