Am I mad for thinking about a Crosstourer?

I miss my old Varadero, but they say never go back so, I like the look of the VFR1200X.

It's got the ADV riding position that I like (cos I'm fat and tall). It's shaft drive, which I used to dismiss, but having had two shafties now they're so much easier than chain drive. It's a premium Honda so should be built well and it's got a bit of go being a 1200 V4.

The only thing putting me off is that it's a teeny bit (very) heavy and that I could get a Multistrada or an 1190 instead (but the Honda seems to fit my use case better).

I'm not sure about the Super Ten either, on paper it ticks all the boxes, but I just don't like the look of it.

I always said I would NEVER buy a GS, but if they're good enough for Couchy... should I be looking?

Budget of around £8k and must have three boxes!

Funny that, my brother was waxing lyrical about the CrossTourer only last night. He's on the lookout for a TDM900 replacement.

The AT's are holding money pretty well. I like them, but they're a bit wee and nesh (to quote the Pony). The bike will be ridden two up pretty much 95% of the time.

I like ADV bikes purely for the ergo's, I have no need to go off road.

I saw one in a dealer a while back having liked the look when I saw them online. In the flesh they’re big and very very heavy. I bought an 1190 which is quite heavy but a lot lighter than the Honda and much much faster. It’s been a great bike but ultimately I wouldn’t put money on it lasting as long as a Honda.

Simply put buy one, I’ve ridden one and if I hadn’t got the GS a VFR1200X would be in its place. It’s big comfy and fast. Heavy to pick up but once on the move they are great, my bro also has a tenere 1200 and that is similar to this and the GS. I think for what you want any of these three would be perfect 👍

There's a bloke coming to look at the wife's GS tomogga, he doesn't need a low one, he just wants a 700GS, so it might be too low for him.

If it doesn't sell I'll try to part-ex against something, two dealers have already offered to come take it away for £5k without even seeing it.

If I do buy another big ADV it'll make the Big Red Bus redundant.

Anyone want a K1200RS?

I had an 800 VFR. Tried a 1200 and it was ridiculously heavy, not for me.

The internet says 275kg wet.

I think my old 'Dero was similar.

The Big Red Bus is 285kg wet.

For me weight is only an issue pushing up hill or picking it up if it falls over. Once moving I find heavy bikes give you a kind of secure 'planted' feeling.

Didn't the reviews say the foot pegs were too high due to using the donor sports bike frame as well as engine? Maybe that was the 800. I'm increasingly of the mind if you want it, just buy it.

My mate had a 1200 VFR and loved it. He ended up flipping it over a roundabout and I gave the wreck to Screwed for nowt I seem to recall. But before he smashed it up my mate was really happy with it. Premium build, comfy and pretty quick 175bhp claimed I seem to recall? His was DCT as well and I think he'd have kept it a while if he hadn't twatted it.

I think you should test ride one and a big GS back to back and write a review. :thumbup:

Obvs the Honda has more power but it would be interesting to compare the whole package for handling, comfort etc etc.
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
But certainty is an absurd one

I can recommend the Super 10, haven't ridden a Crosstourer but did consider one. Definitely wouldn't get another GS.

Well then dont push it up a hill or drop it!! Could you not just ride it up a hill? Serious question, btw
I think they are well regarded and apparently great build quality.

Pushing uphill = parking nose in on a slope.

I guess you just find a better place to park, or put up with the straining.

I always let the bike roll backwards into a downhill slot.

I do like the Multistrada. I'd be quite happy doing a trackday on one. They're the ultimate do anything bike.

But I'm old and fat and just want to ride to the coast with the wife to play on the penny pushers... and maybe the odd Euro trip.

I'm so old and fat that I've become a big fan of shaft drive.
