Isn’t that a dromedary?
Yes. Also known as an Arabian camel, of the genus Camelus

It's a bit like putting a picture of a dog on display just so people can say "isn't that a Collie?"
It’s an old humorous idiom. Maybe people don’t do it any more.

A vegan-only food policy branded "utter madness" by TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has been adopted by a council.

It means only plant-based meals will be served at Oxfordshire County Council events and vegan options will be on school menus.
...
But council leader Liz Leffman said: "We're not going to pin people down and force them to eat vegan food, I can promise you that... the important thing here is that we're leading by example."
So if vegan food is the only option but you don't want to eat it, then the only alternative is not eating. Ah well, I guess that'll save the planet.

It's a ploy to stop people opposing their policies attending council events.

They probably mean vegetarian not vegan.
Having a veggie option at school meals
Council events? Who cares and who goes to them for the food?

It's 'twitter outrage' again.

They did mean vegan but it is only for the 12 council meetings a year so as you say, "twitter outrage".

I've an idea. Why don't the attendees take sandwiches and a flask of tea/coffee if they really need to eat during the event? Then the council taxpayers won't be funding the food that the councillors would be buying for themselves to eat at home.

Sandwiches? I'd take a fish pie and a microwave to heat it up with.

If you want food to be as carbon neutral as possible then eat stuff produced locally and farmed with being low carbon in mind, this can include meat. A radical idea, but it might just work.

It's a long time since I was at school eating locally sourced food, lovingly cooked in the school kitchen. I believe kitchens and cooks were done away with a long time ago, being replaced with freezers and microwaves. Is this still the case?

Our local school still has a kitchen but they make it difficult to buy dinners, they prefer selling expensive snacks.
