£101

Post by KungFooBob »

To tax a bike over 600cc from 1st April 2022.

Surely tax based on capacity is outdated. Even shopping bikes these days are well over 600cc.

A 690 Duke paying the same as a GSXR1000 seems wrong to me. Shouldn't it be on emissions like cars?

No, KTM 690s, MT-07s and XTZ660s should pay more to subsidise the roads for those of us with real men's bikes.

What they said, although I'm not keen on the 1000cc girly men thinking they've got a mans bike :obscene-birdiedoublered:

I've got an 1170cc air cooled bike with 2 valves per cylinder if that helps, it's about as simple as 4 stroke 4 cylinder bike gets.

Everyone knows MT-07s and 690s hold higher corner speeds than litre bikes. All your bikes are good for is tantrum throwing overtaking speeds when you finally exit the corners! :P

Just worked mine out using a calculator and I came up with 1166cc, 75 x 66, 4 cylinders, ((3.142 x (37.5 x 37.5)) x 66) x 4

The problem is that emissions data on bikes has only appeared for the most recent models. I'm not even sure it's on my 59 plate Yamaha's log book.

Not really sure why a 690 should pay less than a GSXR - they still occupy the same space on the road, they need the same kind of parking provisions. And as owners are fond of saying, they save pots of cash on fuel!

It's road pricing that really bothers me - the ULEZ charge is set at the same as a car here in London.

So time to get down the post office and get the taxation class changed on my 1980 Honda.

Just £44 for the little KTM. And it's doing 70-80mpg. A proper scrottage bike. Which is one reason I bought it.

I get free “tax” and I’m told that the pure goodness from my bike’s exhaust causes following riders’ eyes to water.

The pointless reminder just came in.
