I'm somewhat feart* to enter into a discussion about this but here is my opinion.
In my lifetime it has always been so. Today's horror drops off the page when a new one turns up. Wasn't there something going off in Afghanistan recently? I wonder what happened to that.
The trouble is that each humanitarian situation is important and it is impossible to help them all equally at the same time. Therefore people tend to react most to something new or with the loudest voice.
*Being white (ie sickly pinky, orangy, reddish, light brown), privileged, British, racist, toxic elderly, etc
