E10 vs E5
Interesting read in mcn about which is best for us. Two identical bikes gsxs 1000 ran to dry, one E10 and other E5.
Turns out the better E5 is best. 211 miles on a full tank against 198. Taking in the extra cost it still pip's it. Also engine internals will be happier and a slight power improvement, not that you'd notice though.
I've been putting the cheap stuff in but think it's time to change and with the odd tank of esso,'s finest I'm keeping my bike happy.

Re: E10 vs E5
It's 5% difference on two different bikes with two different riders on one tankful, it's not exactly scientific.
Re: E10 vs E5
Well, when it comes to E10 regualr vs E5 regular, I'm definitely seeing a loss in mpg. I'm losing about 5-10% mpg in the car. I've been tempted to put super in the Trident.

Re: E10 vs E5
I was using super in the 690 mainly due to the plastic tank and cos with a 13 litre tank and 60mpg it was cheap enough to use.
With the GSXS it has a 17 litre tank and less mpg. But I still might buy super as my bikes sit more than my cars do. Although in the height of summer it'd probably be fine on e10.
In the car it does seem I'm getting less mpg on e10 though which is poop

Re: E10 vs E5
If an engine was designed to run on E10,then it will.
E10 will give less mpg than E5,but so did unleaded compared to 2 star leaded, but we all moved on because we had to.

I might put super in the KTM, only because I use it so little and it uses so little fuel that it may sit in the tank for ages. And in my mind (not sure if it's correct) super lasts longer than E10.

You could fire in a bit of fuel stabiliser, then use whatever fuel you like. Lots buy it for bikes that are infrequently used.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 9:54 am I might put super in the KTM, only because I use it so little and it uses so little fuel that it may sit in the tank for ages. Re: E10 vs E5
I don't think it last longer... it's just got less ethanol in it so it's less likely to swell plastic and rubber when left over time.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 9:54 am I might put super in the KTM, only because I use it so little and it uses so little fuel that it may sit in the tank for ages. Re: E10 vs E5
E10 swelling the plastic tank might be an issue. Happened a lot in countries that used e10 for a while. You'll sometimes see older SuperDukes, 990s, Tuonos etc with bubbles/blisters on the tank plastic even in the UK from E5. Also think it gums shit up more and goes off faster.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 9:54 am I might put super in the KTM, only because I use it so little and it uses so little fuel that it may sit in the tank for ages. Re: E10 vs E5
I try to use E5 in my bike and my car. In the car I definitely see an improvement in mpg/range

I can't spot any difference, car or bike.

Re: E10 vs E5
Agree entirely. Ethanol is no friend to bikes with steel or plastic tanks. The water produced as a result of phase separation rusts steel tanks and the ethanol itself causes plastic tanks to swell, deform and sometimes fail completely. I hunt out Esso petrol stations for all the bikes and use super unleaded. As of now Esso Super unleaded contains 0% ethanol, not sure how long this will continue though.Supermofo wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 10:19 amE10 swelling the plastic tank might be an issue. Re: E10 vs E5
In the car I'm getting about 40 to 50 miles less a a tankfull, more noticable with the bigger tank. I used to be able to get back home from Glasgow without filling up, now I have to fill up at Cambridge just to make sure I don't run out on the M11. With the Le Mans and Tuono, I try and always use VMax. For the Le Mans I keep a record of every fill up for the last 3 years or so, with ordinary old fashioned E5 it used to be a couple of mpg less than VMax, with E10 I've only had one tank through the Le mans and it appears to be about 4mpg less but thats not sufficint to prove anything yet.

Re: E10 vs E5
Never did an MPG test but the car runs better on E5. E10 sooted up the Lambda sensor what gave us high emissions on last mot. Filled car up with E5, stuck a cleaner in and took it for a vigorous run what did the job and got a pass.

Re: E10 vs E5
Didn't mention, but on their test they swapped riders just to even out riding styles about half way through, but they did ride together. It does seem to make sense, that the more 'pure fuel' would produce more energy making it go further etc.
It would now be nice to see a comparison between eternal free and 5%.

Re: E10 vs E5
I can't buy E10 in Spain. Well I can, but only sold at half a dozen petrol stations in the whole country.
