IOMTT thoughts !
Was reading earlier about MD on the Ducati for the TT this year. Now, it has always been said, track knowledge is key here, bumps, jumps, cambers, grip, etc.
So with all these regulars like Anstey, McG, Cummings, Rutter, Johnson, Martin come to that, how did Peter Hickman come along and kick their arses within such a short time. ?

Re: IOMTT thoughts !
There’s so many newcomers or relatively newcomers at the TT that go quick, unlike years gone by there’s plenty opportunity to learn the course faster with what is accessible especially with the help that’s on hand with the likes of Milky Quayle etc.
Plus the fact Hickman is just so good.

When you say such a short time, didn’t he’s start racing over there in around 2014/15, taking his first win in 2018.Dodgy knees wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 7:49 pm Was reading earlier about MD on the Ducati for the TT this year. An immense talent but he certainly put in the groundwork, didn’t just turn up and blitz everyone first time out.
Also lots of other ‘real’ road racing experience.

Re: IOMTT thoughts !
I've heard a few podcasts with Peter Hickman & he always says that he knew where he was going straight from the off as he played some TT race game for hours on end,so that part of the learning experience was behind him before he set off on his newcomers lap.Likewise Davey Todd said that he learned the circuit from playing the game, then watching race video's.With the race video's he also said that he learned more from Classic TT video's as the pace was not as frantic so he could take it in more easily, modern tech got them both up to pace a lot sooner than what happened in the past.Dodgy knees wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 7:49 pm Was reading earlier about MD on the Ducati for the TT this year. Compare that to Michael Rutter's first experience when they sent him off on a RC45 & told him to get on with it

It does sound like the PlayStation has speeded up the learning the circuit process and maybe helps with the lines using the whole road, instead of driving around using half the road.

Re: IOMTT thoughts !
I still remember a TT film that followed Neil Robinson as he learned his way round the TT... must have been mid-80s. He got back from one run and confessed to having got two corners muddled up out on the Mountain section... trouble is, they look alike but at racing speed one's a lot quicker than the other.
He went into the slow one too quickly.
The deadpan interviewer said "how did you get round it?"
He simply said "I got round it".
Sadly, he was killed in 86 at Scarborough on his first visit.
