Re: Will Russia invade the Ukraine?
LOL!
Anyone who thinks racism is dead and buried in the 'West' is fuckin' stupid. Racism is rampant throughout the whole world except of course, it's not always referred to as racism, that is just the term used when the media (any media, free, state controlled, whatever) wants to do a bit of poking. It's nationalism or some other term when they're talking about friendly neighbours or allies.
The most racist country I've visited is Saudi Arabia. Hong Kong, before the lease ran out was openly racist, the US is still racist despite all the civil rights stuff in the 60s and 70s. Russians are racist if the ones I see here are any indication. The Turks are racist, Afghans certainly are and Australians are fucking awful. Nobody likes foreigners really, they may tolerate them (and the UK tolerates them more than a lot of other countries) but when it comes to the crunch, they'll throw away the tolerance and treat those other people like aliens.
You know it but you maybe don't want to recognise or admit it - presumably because you don't want to be called racist.

"I see people with blonde hair and blue eyes being killed" was carefully edited to remove the context, just before that he'd referenced Putin talking about protecting his Russian race. That journalist was pointing out Putin is killing his own race in the name of protecting them.

I don't believe any at face value and I can see a few articles in the Moscow Times that I don't see on the BBC, they are clearly not pro Putin but are Russian people talking about how Putin is threatening the nuclear option if he doesn't get his own way and how the Russian state is shutting down Russian media outlets. It also talks about how Russians want to escape but are being prevented from leaving Russia by the FSB accusing them of wanting to go and fight for Ukraine.

Certainly thought provoking, whether you agree with all his observations or not.DefTrap wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 11:26 am People like this guy

His observation seems to be he doesn't know and hasn't bothered to find out. He's even lazier than those who are scouring YouTube for footage that fits their conspiracy. But he bloody knows he's being lied to doesn't he? Oooh he's put a lot of effort into working out he's being fibbed to.
If you're on the telly broadcasting to, er, the world then you'd expect some sort of journalistic integrity. He's come with nothing. He may as well be shouting "we're all doomed" on a street corner.

Doesn’t quite fit the definition of apocryphal. I don’t think it’s widely circulated as being true.Count Steer wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 9:05 am Don't know if this is apocryphal but -
An Englishman and a Russian discussing media:
English laughs and says ''All your media is state controlled and is just propaganda'.
Russian laughs even harder and says 'Yes, is true. But you believe yours'.
apocryphal
adjective
(of a story or statement) of doubtful authenticity, although widely circulated as being true

Chambers has it as 'of doubtful authority' with the root as being 'apocrypha' (....books or parts of books in the Old Testament but not accepted as canonical by Jews or Protestants....).JackyJoll wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 12:06 pmDoesn’t quite fit the definition of apocryphal. So, I'm happy with it (and Chambers) but should have said 'this IS apocryphal' as I can't reference the source.

By all means he can assume nothing the traditional media is telling is true and go from there - but if you're going to do that you have to put in some graft and treat all the other evidence you can gather from your armchair the same way. He's not even bothered, he's a man in a pub with a 5 minute rant and then back to his pint.Potter wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 12:22 pm Was it Socrates who said that all education does is open your eyes to things you don't know?
The more I know, the more I realise I don't know, and that's certainly the case with powerful policy makers, I think I probably preferred it when I was innocent and believed what Trevor McDonald told me every evening.

Re: Will Russia invade the Ukraine?
Sorry you're having a bad hair day Iccy, but whatever the rights and wrongs there are millions of people in Ukraine suffering from horrendous atrocities at the hands of the Russians. Again.Potter wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 3:03 amThe figures for deaths in Operation Enduring Freedom vary, but average around 200,000 deaths, a quarter of which were entirely innocent civilians, and the numbers are probably a lot higher if you include disease, starvation, lack of medicine, etc.Bigyin wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 11:28 pm
I did see tonight however Russian State sources have released figures saying that as of today 498 Russian personnel have been killed in the week long assault on Ukraine ............ for comparison the UK had 457 service personnel killed in 10 years fighting in Afhganistan to "free the population"
And they now have a lawless country run by gangs and warlords.
The western media and government leaders will never show you the real picture of what they did, you'll just get the propaganda, and even now we're celebrated as heroes, thank you for your service and god bless you.
Western propaganda and news coverage is the most sickening I've ever seen anywhere in the world, it takes you ten years of being out of it and then being able to look back to be able to see it for what it is. You're literally brainwashed from birth into the same mentality as the original crusaders, Rule Britannia, the real truth of the British Empire is not taught in schools and it came as quite a shock to me when I started travelling the world to see monuments in other countries to remind people of the atrocities committed by British rule.
It's still going on, the occupation of Ireland is alive and well, we'll soon have the Orange Marches to oppress the Catholics and celebrate the victories of intolerance and the religious family values of Henry VIII.

LOL. He's just an ex-presenter of Coast and he's on GB 'News'. It's the sort of thing that Boris has built his career on anyway. Demonstrate you read a few books and then waffle on forever.

Apparently the Ukrainian National Agency for Protection against Corruption has issued a statement saying the captured Russian Tanks and other equipment do not have to be declared as income.

Re: Will Russia invade the Ukraine?
Just in case I'm missing something from biased reporting, has anyone seen any protests in Putin's favour or is it true that all protests (including in Russia) are against him?

Re: Will Russia invade the Ukraine?
As Iccy will no doubt confirm, all protests in Putin's favour have been suppressed by the Western media. Maybe.

Re: Will Russia invade the Ukraine?
I was at a big fancy do (real fancy see, stamp collecting) and there was an old Russian guy who had held a fairly senior rank in the Russian army in the past. He was totally pro Putin and thought the USSR should be put back together. I got the feeling he was part of a tiny minority however.
