That's a hell of a correction, my UK water bill has gone up significantly as well but I'm not sure if that's a mistake or not, no leaks, just a more expensive rate.

Just had a message from a friend back in the UK who's fixed rate with OVO is coming to an end soon.

Electricity: was 16.5p per kWh (day), 11p per kWh (night). New cost 31.3p per kWh both day and night. Standing charge goes from 21.9p to 41.6p per day.

My eletricity costs went up in July last year by 3.4%, currently paying 10p per kWh for day use and 5.4p per kWh for night use, no standing charge. No doubt it will rise again this year but still, those OVO prices are staggering Looking at those increases in gas prices, I'm glad I'm not connected

Yeah I had the electricity company send me a text message a couple of weeks ago, telling me that over the last 24hrs our electricity usage had gone up beyond the usual, turns out my lad had turned the pool thermostat up to 38c. He complained that 28c is too cold

For some time, energy companies have hidden the costs of their tariffs, I wonder why and how they get away with it?

Some time ago, I looked at moving and I couldn't view tariff plans from anyone, years ago you could see the standing charge and kW/h cost of every plan.

I wonder if we're heading into financial lock down, petrol and diesel is now heading towards £2 per litre, it'll soon cost well over £200 to fill the tank up.

Friends of ours, both retired, just got an energy bill of £425, about 3 times what they used to get. Several months ago Mrs irie said they should fix but they didn't. Will only get worse I think ...

Bad advice with deals with low exit fees.

We fixed in September 2021 until September 2023 with a £60 exit fee. It did look like energy prices were only going one direction, but there was no way we could have foreseen the current energy crisis of course.

£50 for a ton of wood for the wood burner sounds like a good deal. So my house in Manchester will be easier to keep warm using that and probably a lot cheaper as well. My nieces husband is ordering some for next weekend.

Before moving into a small town we were renting a cottage in the country. Lots of free wood just lying around. As long as you never chopped down trees the farmers never bothered. I do miss my old coal fire

Wood is usually sold by volume, wet wood is lower quality and heavier so buying by weight encourages a bad supply.
Wood burners are much more efficient than open fires but still a lot more expensive than central heating. With the recent law changes making buying firewood more expensive it probably only works out well if you have access to your own supply.

His intention is to buy it for next winter. There are two wood stores for it to dry out over the summer period. So he will get what he needs and stack it. May get two lots depending on the space.
