Not so much boiling my piss but mildly irritating, but its family so you have to let some things slide...

I'm in Athens for a few days working on the IT infrastructure for a new office, due to fly back last friday evening but storm Eunice has other ideas and I swap to the first flight out Saturday morning and promise to buy the wife something nice as she's got the 3 kids for a other day on her own (half term).

5am up and out of the hotel, flight was uneventful, arrive at LHR, grab an uber, home before lunch but knackered. Walk in, make a fuss of the kids, dog goes mental as she's not had a walk, wife says to me "Sorry to do this as you've just got back but Mum and Dad haven't had power since Friday morning and Dad can't start the generator...". We're quite rural here so I presume he's got it for emergencies. They're mid 70s, waiting for hip hops, one a diabetic and they've got no heating so I nip up the road.

The garage is open and his Honda 1.9 kva genny is there so I drag it out the the back garden, knock on the door and open the fuel cap.

Out the FIL comes and says "Ahhh, I see you've got the same one as me..."

"No, this is yours. Kate's asked me to try and get it running"

"Oh, OK. I thought you were going to bring your up for us to use"

I explain that it's a 3kva set and quite heavy, down the bottom shed and I will bring it up if I can't start this one.

The petrol stinks and its the colour of stewed tea when I crack the float bowl drain. I ask if he's got any fresh petrol as I spray carb cleaner down the air intake knowing full well its more gummed up than a teenage boys wank sock.

A Jerry can appears and he tells me the generator has only been run a few hours, he bought when they had a power cut during the big Oct 87 storm...

"Has it been used since?'

"Err, no."

FFS 30 year old petrol.

I sling it in the back of the car to strip the carb when I have time and nip back to get my generator. I drag it 100ft across our sodden garden, leaving a big trough behind. Nearly prolapse loading it into the car and nip back up the road.

It fires up first pulling I connect the 16a blue plug that has a 6way extension lead on it. He looks at me and drags out a Heath Robinson 16a commando to 3-pin domestic plug arrangement and explains how he plugs it in and runs the WHOLE house...

I tell him to turn the main breaker, the 3 freezers and any electric heaters off and not to boil the kettle. We plug it in, the generator bogs down and the idles. They've got lights, the boiler works and I turn the TV on for them. I go home and take the wife and kids out to the local club for beer, pop and crisps.

Half way though my pint I get a call...

"Hi. The lights have gone out when Sue went to make a cup of tea..."



Nip up the road again, flick the breaker, return to finish my pint.

The next day I check the leccy board website and service is not due to be restored until Monday night now so I nip up to the inlaws to check the fuel and oil levels. When I get there the old boy is back from church and the genny us off. They switched it off in case power was restored overnight. Levels are all okay so I start it up and plug the death trap lead in... the genny bogs down then trips. Reset. Trip. Reset. Trip. Reset. Trip.

"Have you switched anything back on?"

"Just the freezers."



Off he goes and returns to say he's turned the main breaker back off also... So I've basically been trying to power the whole fucking street for 5 minutes!

They got power back Sunday night...

Barclays Bank - or Banks in general. Needed to put some cheques in the business a/c and it's over the limit to do it on the phone app ( not that I've want / got it ) so off I trot on a 8 mile round trip and as they don't wake u until 10.00am so it's 4 hours lost. Got 'em banked anyway.

That was yesterday and there's a E mail today - ''Further to visit to our branch how did we do ?''

We'll - if you didn't keep closing the piggin branches I'd done it on the way to work. 10 mins max.

And then u get to the service counter it's ''Do u know u can bank the cheques in that machine over there ?'' Well - Do u still want a job ? so if you don;t fancy it - why not put the piggin machine outside and I can bank cheques outside your ridiculous opening hours ?

Does anyone actually read these Surveys ?

The price of hotel rooms in Brighton. Long story, but we wanted to a see something at the theatre down there in June. Two double rooms for a Saturday night couldn't be had for less than 400 notes. Even the fecking Premier Inn wanted as much. Hotel Du Vin, where I've had cheap deals previously, wanted £700+ I don't wanna keep the fecking room, just kip in it for a night.

Me and the missus went there last August Bank Holiday - long story but was quite surprised / impressed with Brighton. Like u we couldn't find anywhere decent / reasonable £'s in town and then somewhere safe to park the car. But fair play we ended up here : Clayton Wickham Farmhouse - on booking.com.( or bell 'em ) 5 minute drive to Hassocks Train Station ( mint parking ) and then 20 mins in on the train ( about £6 return, I think ) so no stress. If u like old buildings the farmhouse and gardens are stunning and the owners really nice. We'll be back there for Goodwood FOS.

Mind u £18 for Fish / Chips and a Coke near Brighton Pier watching the Mods go up and down was a bit steep. £16 for 2 pints on the beachfront...

I had one many many years ago. What they didn't tell me was the hormones and the like mean that the size can increase again if you have the op young. Ok, they didn't go back to the original (or I'd have bloody had it done again!) but to be honest, I'd be totally willing to have it done again if I could afford it! Might be fun to look at (for other people/guys) but it sucks to deal with clothing, lack of being about to do sports (I was a 400m sprinter until I was 14).

And TBF, half the time if you meet a guy you can't be sure he isn't interested just cos he wants to find out just how big they are - now that really does BMP!!!!

When I went to see the Surgeon who ended up replacing my knee, he was very much against supports and so is my Physiotherapist who I see now for the other knee. Both are of the opinion they (supports) end up relieving the muscles of their job and physiotherapy ends up being about retraining the muscles to do what they should be, or used to be, doing.

I don't disagree at all. I've avoided supports all through this. What I want is a compression/armour brace. And only for certain sports, totally not for everyday use

My main thing is skiing - if I fall, there is a chance my arm will move in ways that it shouldn't (like when I tripped at home!). So a compression one will help keep my arm from flailing (hopefully) and a bit of armour will (hopefully) protect the metal. Soft armour not the hard moulded type that I still think helped the shoulder injury to be significantly worse than it could have been!!

Now the step daughter cant go as its the day of the op. The wife cant find someone to go with and keeps nipping my head to go. Sod that, Skunk Anansie had a couple of good ditties but the rest is just shouting noise.

I'll second this with Santander. Someone gave me a pile of cash last week for an item, i had a struggle trying to find out where and when i could actually put the money into my account. It really shouldn't be that difficult.

Several banks allow you to pay in at post offices, but it needs a printed paying in slip which they don't all send out.

All chilled having had the dressing changed on my leg only to have people rush in and tell me I have to move from the chair to the bed cos I'm getting a neighbour. That's fine except in the madness I end up standing (with the crutches) can't get to the bed or the chair, can't move anything to get things sorted. Then they rush in and out around me and just say - you have to wait. FFS. It wouldn't be too hard to be a bit kind and a bit slower really. but hey ho. I'm the foreigner and have already worked out that that is a massive disadvantage

TBF, its one of the few things in France that bugs me - customer service. In general I don't get fussed too much cos they won't change.

But, when someone tries really hard to speak the language of the country they live in, it wouldn't take much for carers to just be a little kind. I don't need my hand holding but do get stressed when told loads of stuff so fast I don't understand and then I don't really know whats going on.

I know it's just how it is. Just p's me off sometimes - mostly cos I've worked in customer service/customer facing roles forever and wouldn't behave like that to anyone (in work or out), especially someone with limited mobility and understanding!!!


But, at least the care is good - I don't have to wait 7 hours for an ambulance
