There were queues last night as well, not surprised when the price of fuel is likely to jump up again.

Re: Will Russia invade the Ukraine?
I thought that would be his excuse when he first advanced into the 2 disputed bits, but then he invaded from Belarus as well which is into Ukraine-Ukraine isn't? As opposed to that oppressed genocidal bit that doesn't belong to Ukraine according to Putin.Potter wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 1:09 pm Is it an actual invasion now? I've just got in and not seen the news yet, I thought it was still a peacekeeping mission to protect the pro-Russians from Ukrainian butchers - you know like when the US went into Syria under the same lies.
I didn't actually think he'd cross the borders but fair play to those that called it, he's there.

Re: Will Russia invade the Ukraine?
He's using his numerical advantage to stretch the Ukraine defence. Most of Ukraine's elite divisions are reportedly in the East so he'll be assuming resistance in the rest of the country will be weaker and more likely to surrender, before encircling the main Ukrainian army. If the advance continues, Ukraine's only real hope is an urban defence from its cities which would result in horrendous casualtiesSupermofo wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 1:20 pmI thought that would be his excuse when he first advanced into the 2 disputed bits, but then he invaded from Belarus as well which is into Ukraine-Ukraine isn't? Putin said that one of the goals of the invasion was the denazification of Ukraine.Supermofo wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 1:20 pmI thought that would be his excuse when he first advanced into the 2 disputed bits, but then he invaded from Belarus as well which is into Ukraine-Ukraine isn't? Ironic when the President of Ukraine, Zelensky, is Jewish.

Re: Will Russia invade the Ukraine?
Yeah, while EU leaders sat down with Putin to try to avert war, the UK's leader was too busy defending himself and his chums for getting pissed in his garden . It's a good job Londongrad isn't swimming in dodgy Russian cash and being corrupted by greedirie wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 1:00 pm [rant]
All these indignant words spouted by Ursula Van Der Luyen and the Brussels elite is hilarious. Putin's laughing behind his hand at these ignorant dumbf*cks, led by Germany, who have for decades slowly been corrupted by their greed. Now the Piper must be paid. Courtesy of Brexit we are able to watch these Muppets from outside the EU.

But British campaigners and lawmakers have been left in no doubt about the strong connection between Russian money and illicit finance. A report by Parliament’s intelligence committee in 2020 concluded that London was a “laundromat” for tainted Russian money. (London is often more like an airing cupboard: where loot ends up after being rinsed elsewhere.) An earlier report in 2018, by MPs on the foreign-affairs committee, found that “despite the strong rhetoric, President Putin and his allies have been able to continue ‘business as usual’ by hiding and laundering their corrupt assets in London

I genuinely don't get a) why you'd laugh (well maybe I can figure that one out) and b) why you think the UK would be immune as a result of Brexit.irie wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 1:00 pm [rant]

Re: Will Russia invade the Ukraine?
Where do we go from here?
Sanctions? Real sanctions will hurt us almost as much as Russia, and they will be circumvented anyway.
Actual war? Putin seems to be implying he will go nuclear if NATO makes a serious attempt to push him back.
Or what? Posturing again?

Who is going to risk calling that a bluff with a man that appears to have a screw loose? Biden isn't Kennedy. Then again, a certain American military man said 'The 1st World War was fought in Yurp, the 2nd World War was fought in Yurp and the 3rd World War will be damn well fought in Yurp'.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 3:56 pm Where do we go from here?

Biden won't have the backing to implement military options, so he might tell us to. EU isn't going to. NATO struggle to keep a peace never mind win a war.
Sanctions it is then.

Re: Will Russia invade the Ukraine?
The best thing for the people of Ukraine is to get hostilities over as quick as possible, it doesn't matter who wins, it'll be ordinary people dying and losing their homes, and the longer the war goes on the more will die.Cousin Jack wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 3:56 pm Where do we go from here?

Does it really matter to the ordinary people of Ukraine if they have a Western or Eastern facing government?
The West will hopefully just impose sanctions rather than going to war, a real war would hurt the UK a lot more than sanctions.
IMO Boris will do fuck all that effects him or his friends.

(a) My laughter is at the irony of the indignant angry words from the impotent Brussels elite who bear much responsibility for cosying up to Russia.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 1:50 pmI genuinely don't get a) why you'd laugh (well maybe I can figure that one out) and b) why you think the UK would be immune as a result of Brexit.irie wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 1:00 pm [rant]

Re: Will Russia invade the Ukraine?
The BBC has a live feed from Ukraine (may need to translate some of it using Chrome)
I'm struggling to believe the Russians would be stupid enough to use artillery. Or at least hoping they wouldn't

https://www.bbc.com/ukrainian/live/news-60462319Important information about the Russian invasion from the Interior Ministry!
"Troops of the occupiers from the territory of Belarus have entered the Chernobyl Zone . The National Guard, which guards the storage of hazardous radioactive waste, is fiercely resisting.
If the nuclear waste storage facility is destroyed as a result of the occupiers' artillery strikes, the radioactive dust could cover the territories of Ukraine, Belarus and the EU countries! "

Re: Will Russia invade the Ukraine?
Because courtesy of Brexit the UK is no longer a member of the EU and can therefore no longer be bound by any decisions of the EU Commission or any other EU body where majority decisions can be made. Really not difficult to understand tbh.
See above.DefTrap wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 4:48 pmIf Russia "invades the EU" we Brits are just going to play our Brexit joker card are we?irie wrote: ↑Thu Feb 24, 2022 1:00 pm [rant]

Re: Will Russia invade the Ukraine?
Yeah not really though, I'm not sure the EU ever really had any real control over what the UK did with it's own armed forces
