Rear Shock Stuff

I have a Fox RP23 shock in my Orange bike and it's duff. Is it best to get it refurbed in UK or get a new one ?

I'm going over in a few weeks so can give it to my brother to sort out. Or would I be better getting a new one ?

I know fuck all about them except this bugger just goes up and down when I pedal on the road and the locking thingy is bust

I don't need anything fancy as I'll just set it up wrong anyway

Like everything, it's way more complex than that. A shock has a length and a stroke, as well as potentially different mounts and tunes.

It may have stroke written on it.

The length is eye to eye middles.

Note, this is not a guesstimate think 210mm, 205mm, 215mm, it matters, as does the strike, let's day 50mm, 52.5mm, 55mm, they're different and different for a reason.

You can pre book a service/repair for£120-140 at Sprung suspension, Tf tuned, jtech suspension etc. But an RP23 may not be repairable depending on parts needed.

A new shock wants to again be the correct length and stroke, it will cost from £250-1000.

If you buy new you'll need to fit all the bushings etc. Without the correct tools, that will go badly

It's 190mm long and the eye size is 8mm

Nah, it's not 90mm long mate sorry.

Eye size is all the same, mostly.

Edit, ok, 190mm.

Now measure the pushy in bit to almost the end of the piston. That'll give you stroke.

They're a press fit,



The thing described as eyelet bushing needs a tool to get out and in.

Cool. That one isn't lockable, but the dearer ones are. I'll take the shock into Decathlon and use my best Spanish (and Google translate)

That makes sense. But I can afford a bit more than the cheapest in the shop.
The next up about double the price gets rave reviews.
