After a discussion and an email today, i went bonkers and bought this.

Imagespecialized-status-160-2021-enduro-all-mountain-93720-52-93720-53-3-38259 by Steve Weeks, on Flickr

I've been debating one for a while, so thought "why not".....

I fancied trying the mullet thing, along with wanting a Specialized and loved the shape, colour and geometry of the Status.... So why not.. what's the worst that can happen lol. I used the chat online on Rutland and was met with "we only have 1 left in that size, it's in the MK store"... If you want it now i can lower the price a bit..
I replied with "can you throw in a set of pedals too?" he said yes and that was that..

That's a bloody good Qn mate. I generally don't keep things i don't need. But it could be useful to have as a 'spare' in case one bike is broken before a race weekend as it could be a game changer as none of the lads really own a bike i'd want to race on due to sizing, geometry etc...

Nice. So the plan is to drop a 27.5" wheel into the rear of this to Mullet it.

It comes as a mullet as standard mate.
The Status 140 is a mullet MTB meaning it has a 29" front wheel and a 27.5" rear wheel. This aims to take the benefits of both wheel sizes such as the short wheelbase and chainstays that a 27.5" rear wheel allows but with the best possible speed and traction because of the 29" front wheel. The Status won't break a sweat no matter what you throw at it.

Well I wonder as the spec sheet says 29 rims! Hence the question! Although the tyres are listed as Mullet sizings.

That would be interesting as it says 30mm internal width

Tell me, what is the justification? I was under the impression that the bond between you and the Whyte was so great that you probably took it out for dinner last night !

You can have many.

1. Bonus and payrise figures at work today.
2. I wanted to try the 29er front end
3. I think the 29er front and overall bike may be quicker
4. I like Fox forks
5. BB height is better for some trails.
5. I fancied trying something new

That's about the gist of it really. There wasn't too much depth in there. Sure i think the Whyte is a brilliant bike... but it is massively overkill for many of the things i ride, i even think that with my skills getting better, it'll be the right bike for Southern Enduro racing, there's VERY little i ride that i think i won't be able to on the new bike. However, we'll have to find out the answer to that.

I care less than you :)

If i really hate it, with the head angle it has, it'll be the lads race bike at the end of the year and i'll use the G-170.

Thing is, you never really know, until you try things. Like the Bird, it was something i wanted to try....

Good, good, you’re journey to the Dark Side’s one true wheel size has begun………
"Of all the stories you told me, which ones were true and which ones weren't?"
"My dear Doctor, they're all true."
"Even the lies?"
"Especially the lies."
