Black chrome is your answer.
Not particularly cheap, but very effective and will last longer than a ceramic finish.

Did you follow the baking on instructions that should have been on the can? That looks like it's gone from stone cold to roaring hot in one hit.

Strip it off, reapply, bake in the oven, slowly bring it up to temp.
It won't be a permanent fix but you should get a few months / a year out of it

I couldn't have warmed it any slower without using a hair dryer :) The bike was runing for 10s tops... i know headers get warm quickly, but i couldn't have done any less.

If you can't get a couple of cooler heat cycles through it (heat gun / oven / BBQ) I'd give it up as a bad idea as it always just bubble or burn off.

Well I'm certainly not planning on trying the paint again that's for sure.

Option 1 at the moment is https://ctc-powder-coating.co.uk/ who are £225 all in. 2 year warranty on it... Which isn't bad. I'll likely leave until winter anyway now.
option 2 is a used Akra/Scorpion/something from Ebay as and when they come up.

The MT09 system is currently fitted again so i can use the bike this afternoon.

I've had good results from this stuff. Had this can for years.

Mate I'd give it up and use the MT09 system. To me it looks factory and has a decent finish and sound. Only people with an XSR would probably know it's supposed to be black and about 90% of them would probably wish they'd done the same as you rather than put up with the rubbish finish that Yamaha have given them.

Shame that, as I think that system looks much nicer.

Back to the weekend and I got to ride the XSR.

First thing I noticed compared to my Monster is that the pegs were lower and bars a bit higher so there was loads of room and lots of leverage. Singl round instrument was easy to read although the font size a little small on some info.
It rode like you'd expect a new Jap bike to ride - comfy, easy steering, smooth etc. The indicator switch felt a little flimsy and I kept sounding the horn to cancel them! - deffo my problem, not Yamahas!
The engine felt familiar in the way it wound up - similar to my tiger but with a lot more poke, and similar to the 765 RS I rode recently but with less poke and a lack of character. Don't get me wrong, its a lovely engine, but I can see why Weeksy is after a different exhaust to let it sing properly.
Handling was great, I found the rear a little firm but I'm a few Kgs lighter than weeksy. Initial fork dive was noticeable but not a problem, its accentuated by the initial bite from the front brakes being pretty fierce.
All in all its a really nice bike - I could quite easily live with one but I'd probably go for the Tracer (once they bring a prettier version out) for the practicality of the fairing / rack etc.

Nah that's Yamaha's fault as I did that too. Following Weeksy I tooted him at the first turn and nearly did it again a couple of times.

How does it compare to the 765? As that's on my list too.

Think the Tracer would be my choice too. Cost I'm middle aged and ting :D

The 765 feels like sports bike without the fairing rather than just a naked bike, motor feels stronger than the 10 or so bhp advantage it has over an XSR even though the XSR has more torque on paper - weird. Triumph feels more expensive too (and it is).

I'd go for The Tracer as I ride all year round and commute. At the moment I've still got my old Triumph Tiger - a Tracer has 10+ more bhp, is much lighter and has a 17" front wheel so its an attractive alternative Although everyone is raving about the new 900 Tiger which does look lush!

Don't agree with that at all. Thought the XSR feels way more grunty than the 765. Maybe when really walloping the rpm the 765 feels it... but everything else, i can't agree.

Nah mate... I'm still up in the air on the exhaust. Really really up in the air on it actually.

This one was topping my list.

But the mounting bracket goes from the cans at a 45deg angle and bolts onto the pillion peg holes, then over to other side of undertray and on that side too. It looks just weird..

Well, first of all, how much is the corbin seat.?. 4 mins ish.

Exhaust, for me it's how it looks rather than sound and you don't want it too noisy. The double you posted looks OK but expensive, so for me it's Black widow, fits the bike perfect, made to measure.
The Akra imo looks awful, too long. If its hung low it needs to be short. Higher longer. 👍
