Insurance fun. Not.
Insurance fun. Not.
So, here I am. It's time to insure the Trident. I've had the first year over me, no accidents, no claims. Now I can reap the rewards and finally have cheaper insurance.
Or not.
A quick Go Compare search says I'll be paying pretty much the same as I did last year. I might as well be 17 again trying to insure a Cossie in the middle of London. I'm 40 this year ffs.
It would nearly push me to get rid of the bike, it's that grim.
£1500!! Exactly the same as what I paid last year.

Wow... £1500 at 40.... that's... well... a LOT.
I'd be curious to know what mine would be with 1 year and just passed... i may go check.
Edit.
So with the same things you have. 1 year licence, 1 year NCB, 1 year on car the same.
That's fully comp. No security devices.
£211.

Do you live in a dodgy postcode?
Just to rub it in, I'm 43 and I insured three bikes for under £300 (but I do have 20+ years no claims).

Re: Insurance fun. Not.
If it helps when the boy was looking to insure the 636 he got quotes up to 1500 and most were about a grand. Once we added a lock as aftermarket security and the data tag then the cost came down to 650 quid fully comp with a 4 week old license and 0 no claims.
Shop around different comparison sites as some get preferential deals to others and add security devices is all I can suggest

Have you tried triumph insurance, it's actually Adrian Flux insurance behind the banner.
I've payed £120 a year for the last 3 years for my Tiger and the price at renewal has been identical.

I live in south Manchester, so as dodgy as it gets.
It's in a locked shed, with a serious lock and chain, and Datatagged.
I'm currently insured with Triumph Insurance, which is Bike Sure. They came in at £40 less than what they charged me last year. Loads of companies declined to quote.

You need to find a company that classes a shed as the same as a brick garage. Most don't, but some do.

I think it's the postcode then fella.... As i say, with your age and a fictional name, with 1 year NCD and a new licence.... £211. That was in a locked garage though.
Edit. If i take it out of the garage and change to 'on private property' i get £370

Re: Insurance fun. Not.
Yea, that would definitely be the cheapest way to solve this issue
I changed 'on driveway' to 'locked garage' and the cheapest was £435 with Triumph Insurance.
So it appears that some insurance companies can accept a locked shed as garaged as long as it comforms to a few things such as a concrete base and that it locked and on my property which it is. I'll check the T&Cs with Triumph and see what they say.

I think that's deffo the way forward matey. Even if it means something like installing a better lock and ground anchor in it for example.

Do you have a car? If so, try Carol Nash Six Wheel Policy as they may split the no claims from you car to your bike. I had the opposite problem, didn't have a car for a few years so no NCB but 20 years NCB on the bike. They shared my NCB between both.

You're lucky. I've had bike insurance since 1975 and mine's going up every year since about 2010.tricol wrote: ↑Mon Feb 14, 2022 11:21 am So, here I am. It's time to insure the Trident. You missed a completely open goal there....... What you meant to say was.....
Maybe you should get some rider training or join the IAM, that tends to keep your premiums down.

Re: Insurance fun. Not.
I think there are 2 companies that cover us. Devitts are who i am currently with as an instructor for the Fazer but i managed to get business use cover on the Ducati as well with bike sure although i am not entirely convinced they understood what i was telling them as the paperwork says driving instructor / motorcycle industryThe Spin Doctor wrote: ↑Mon Feb 14, 2022 12:51 pm

The Yamaha has 2 years NCD, the Multi 10+ ....... the little bike is worth a grand max and costs 199 TPFT, the big bike is worth 8 grand and costs the same for fully comp. Go figure
The best part is as a DVSA certified instructor i get no reduction. If i do the IAM who arent qualified instructors i get a discount ffs

Oddly enough, being a qualified instructor RAISES the premium.
