Don't you have to be scruffy and unwashed with goatee beard to use them?

Re: Cleaning exhaust headers
From my personal experience of Triumph headers, they'll turn brown again about 90 seconds after you start the engine. Save yourself a load of grief and just hose them down to get the worst of the dirt off

Autosol (or something similar). impregnate some strong cloth tape with it, and wrap it around and saw it too and fro. Once upon a time I used to have a source of such tape, pre-impregnated with metal polish but I very much doubt it exists today.
Yellow, with white to finish. I think, it was a looooong time ago!

Re: Cleaning exhaust headers
Rounded up the bits I need to start on this job. Walked into Wemoto and the guy behind the counter knew what bike I had - I guess that's as close to feeling famous as I'm ever going to get
I need to remove the radiator first so that will get a good clean while I'm at it. I have some of this stuff coming GTG Condenser Cleaning Foam - has anyone used anything similar (for radiators, not headers ).

Re: Cleaning exhaust headers
I'd be very cautious using that on a radiator made from aluminium. Alkalis - which is what this is said to be - corrode exposed aluminium.Trinity765 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 10:17 am Rounded up the bits I need to start on this job. Doesn't take more than a pinprick hole and the radiator's done for... I had a tiny salt corrosion hole on the Hornet's radiator a couple of years back... the first warning was a warm, wet boot on a hot summer's day.

Re: Cleaning exhaust headers
Get some stainless studs and nuts while you are in there.
I'd give those header nuts a good soaking too, before trying to loosen.

I was just looking at those... they're worse than the ones on my 40 year old Honda.

Re: Cleaning exhaust headers
How would I get the studs out? The nuts are obvious - I can see those (not taken the headers off yet).

Re: Cleaning exhaust headers
Put two nuts onto the stud and tighten them together using two spanners, then use the back nut to loosen the stud.Trinity765 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 4:00 pmHow would I get the studs out? The nuts are obvious - I can see those (not taken the headers off yet).

Re: Cleaning exhaust headers
If you get more than 3 out complete, ie not snapped, I'll be very impressed. Best of luck!Trinity765 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 4:00 pmHow would I get the studs out? The nuts are obvious - I can see those (not taken the headers off yet).
