Yoshimura Dual-Outlet Refurb & Repack

Post by Clanktank »

Got a Yoshi dual-outlet off ebay, from Greece of all places. My favourite anecdote from Greece was when heading towards Athens airport in a taxi and being passed by some 1000cc sports-bike going at +120mph with the rider in T-shirt and shorts. Zero fucks given. :o
So these exhausts can go for big bucks on the GSXR forums & FB groups (£500+), as the dual-outlets are seen as the best for noise, so was happy when the seller accepted less than half of that for for it.
There were a few issues with it just from the pictures, so an ali-express stick-on Yoshi badge, no holes for where the original badge should be, and no identifying stamps, so is it really a Yoshi or a knock-off? I just had to wait and see if and when it actually arrives.

It turned up the next week, and good news it was in as good a condition as the pictures showed, with no dramas or unexpected issues.
Talking to the Yoshi distributor he confirmed it was a genuine JDM stainless dual-outlet. Phew! Apparently the US version is a lot different, who knew.

I ordered a new decal, and a repack kit as well, as who knows when it was last serviced.

Packing out, not too bad. Previous owner obviously knew what they were up to.

So with the thing in bits I can drill some new badge holes. Must get some new drills, mine were all fucked.

There's obviously been some fuckery going on previously, but once together it's all good, so no big concerns.

The Yoshi repack kit comes now as dual-stage, so has a stiffer outer sheet, and the normal fibre-glass packing. The outer sheet is handy as it can be used as a former for the packing, just stuff it in.

The stainless rivets destroyed my "Heavy Duty" rivet gun without even managing one.

Had to appeal to a friendly neighbour who bought out the big guns.

Just the small rivets left for the badge

So, all back together in an afternoon. Not looking bad compared to what it was.

Looks a bit stubby. Probably find it's been shortened at some point. Usually following damage at the lower outside corner, so you cut the worst off and maybe flip the outer round til you find a shiny outside face. Might also explain the extra holes, not sure about the missing badge rivets though, unless it was stubbied at the top after never been crashed? Who knows.
