Re: Boris - how much longer will he suvive?
I’m in two minds about Johnson. At his core, I’m reasonably sure his politics matches mine, centrist with a dash of liberalism thrown in.
That said, he bounces around in a populist wind and doesn’t have any sort of spine when it comes to policies he believes in (except when it comes to saving his skin).
Stick or twist?
I think the cards are stacked against us and any twist will cause a huge lurch to the right.

Brexit was centrist was it? I didn't realise how far left my liberalism had drifted obviously ...

It's ok, Gove is still supporting Boris.
But he added: "I came in the last few days, reluctantly and firmly, to the conclusion that while Boris has great attributes he was not capable of uniting that team and leading the party and the country in the way that I would have hoped."
To be fair, that was in 2016

Boris was against brexit until he decided he may be able to land himself the PM’s job, hence my comment about blowing with the populist wind.

Johnson's had his day, time to move on, so it is as it has always been.

Move on to who? That’s the issue.
It’s such a sad indictment of today’s political landscape that I can’t look at a mainstream party and see anyone that I would want as PM.
Sunak would be the obvious choice, on the surface a man of the right ability is but I can’t see past the potential conflict of interest he has as the son in law of one of India’s richest men.

Boris is a dead weight on the Conservative party now.
It does look likely Sunak will be the next in charge.
And yes, I can see he may continue the corruption. But it's kind of worth the price for the frothing reaction from the get Brexit done / send the buggers back brigade once a brown person is in charge of the UK.

He may not have a big enough network of support in the party, but then again he hasn't been around long enough to have a big network of enemies either.

Oh dear...they have haven't they? I've only really seen 3/4 shots of him before
Stand by comment though. It's not a high bar to clear.

Shifty Sunak -seems- normal. Normal whilst being terribly entitled, over privileged and aware that if he cocks it up for us he can just literally whistle himself off stage left and he'll be totally fine. Like a premier League football manager.
There's a small pot of talent on the Tory front bench, almost as if Boris has thinned out any of the good ones and non compliant ones because it's easier to handle / blame a succession of no talent fules

Or he just doesn't know what talent looks like. If you're a div then even other marginally less divvy people seem stellar.
Not saying either is the case BTW.

Kemi Badenoch is more blacker than him and she’s got “Enoch” in her name.Asian Boss wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 8:55 pm And yes, I can see he may continue the corruption. Re: Boris - how much longer will he suvive?
IIRC when he got the reins he culled everyone/most who were against Brexit. That got shot of much of the talent and kept the arse kissers/corrupt ones.DefTrap wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 9:22 am Shifty Sunak -seems- normal. That's quality conflation of being pro Brexit and being an arse licker/corrupt.demographic wrote: ↑Sat Feb 05, 2022 10:58 amIIRC when he got the reins he culled everyone/most who were against Brexit. Is it?
I keep mixing my "conflation" with "identification" its a real issue.
And Iccy has recently learned how to spell "Machiavellian" and is determined to shoehorn it into every available thread to let us know it, he's doing well dont you think? I'll ratch a gold star out and stick it on his chart so the other kids know.

To be fair, I also needed my spillchucker for it.
It's not a word that comes up much at work.I kind of guessed the first bit and spillchucker filled the rest in so I went...err..ok that looks about right.
