anyone got Hive or nest??

I quite like the idea of controlling all the heating from a single app or tablet or what ever. I like the idea of convenience, to control and set timers.

I live in a new build that was finished middle of 2021, so its pretty well insulated, we have boiler down stairs (where I assume they fit what's needed) an immersion heater in the top bedroom wall space (not really sure what that does I am sad to say) bottom floor has underfloor heating with 3 little wall panels, then top floors have radiators (x4) and both floors have a thermostat.

would one of the above be able to control all of that??? I know id need the rad valves but would it do the boiler and underfloor heating??

You need Salus Smart Home Thermostats, TRV's and UFH Actuators, there's probably a plug in receiver if it's a main brand modern boiler too.

Have got a Hive controller (and the necessary unit in the gas 'boiler') very pleased with it. It can do a lot more than we use it for but you may need to add stuff like 'Hive compatible' plugs on things.

We’ve got a Nest.

Great when it works but the app is temperamental.
The location part is iffy so when it should recognise that we’re away from the house, it doesn’t, so doesn’t switch the heating off.
Kinda defeats the object of having it for us.

We’ve got Hive in our home. We have the thermostat which is the minimum that you require(along with the part that is wired into your boiler) but if you want to use the app you have to have the Hive Hub as well.

When we moved in the stuff was already installed but the hub was no use as it was registered to the previous owners so we weren’t able to use it.

So I had to purchase the hub, install it and set it up.

It’s great being able to adjust everything via the phone especially when you are out and are heading home etc.

I’m fairly certain Hive to a package price for the whole lot.

We have NEST to control our heating and previously a camera, but that's no longer in use. It's been faultless. Its sync'ed with our Alexa, so I just say Alexa "heating 22" and it'll set the thermometer to what ever you've asked it to. Works brilliantly.

I do use the app if the weather changes and no ones at home, ie to turn the heating on or off or up or down etc and never had a problem using the app either.

We’ve got Hive. It’s fine and it works, which is more than can be said for a lot of app based technology.

I fitted a NEST thermostat to our house down south and it worked without issue for many years.
Great to be able to heat up the house when I was still driving down the M6!

That was just attached to a combi boiler though, which was very, very easy to do.
Yours does sound a bit more complicated.

I haven't found a 'smart' TRV for the rads that I get on with, but have only tried 2 so far.

brilliant cheers guys, I guess its down to whether Hive or nest will do the underfloor heating easier. going to have a proper look later tonight into them.

Have a look at Tado too, I used them for a few years to control the heating and the hot water, really easy to program the schedules and it senses your phone location and automatically turns the heating down when you're out and back up as you get close to home again.
