Reminds me when my Dad's cousin died in his late 50s. He was always car nuts and was constantly tinkering with them and buying them etc. He'd also been a HGV and skip lorry driver at times. My dad (they were close) was flabbergasted when he found out at the funeral that John (cousin) never had a license.

I was the same on a bike. Had bigger bikes for years but never bothered to take a test. I only did when they introduced some big change or another in the early 90s. I thought if I don't do it now, I never will, so I did a weekend course with CSM and passed on the Monday!

If these people are working using Apps then id imagine its much harder to police it.
Previously'when i worked at the Royal Free we had someone come through ITU who had fallen from his Faux Police BMW (he may have had the fluro Sam Browne as well as all the gear)- he was well know to traffic police apparently .

I rode on L plates for a while but at the time the L plate allowance was 2 years on a 125 to pass test and if you didnt then a year without entitlement iirc. My 2 years ran out so I figured i was riding illegally anyway so got rid of the 125 and wazzed round on an RD250LC and XS400SE bikes i owned. I only bothered getting my full license when i turned up for a courier job on my 400 and they wanted a copy of my license and insurance .... oops, leave it with me

Went away and passed the Part 1 and 2 within a few days and started as a courier end of the following week

In the 70s it wasn't uncommon for riders to have a provisional licence and ride whatever they wanted.

250 badges on 750 triple was an easy touch,I had a YR5 350 Yam with YDS7 250 badges. The cops didn't know or never looked.

Even in the 80's the majority of cops had no clue on bike license laws as i was stopped a couple of times and blagged my way out of it despite a complete lack of license , insurance or MOT as there were no online databases and everything was in paper form and took an eternity to even check on the spot.

Yoof nowadays havent got a hope against ANPR, portable fingerprint readers and databases which are interlinked and available at the touch of a roadside button

Seems like there's a certain amount of illegality in our pasts, I did the 2yr 125 thing and then rode around on an xt250 until I took my test on a mates c90.
Had to take my driving lessons in secret after driving my gf car home & telling my parents I'd already got a licence

I may have had a GT185 registered as a 125, mostly for reasons of cost, it certainly wasn't for performance reasons.

My other pal got RD200 and he went wooooo

There was this alcoholic insurance agent. Sort of door to door type.

If one of the lads had to go to the cop station with the documents, they gave him drink and he wrote a cover note dated to include the date the lad got stopped.
