I've gone blind, kind of

Last Thursday my left eye started hurting, Fri morning it was a bit claggy so used a salt water wash every few hours. Sat morning it was totally glued shut so went to pharmacy who gave me infected eye drops. Vision was fine at that point.

Starting Sunday my eye started to go blurry and got worse till Tuesday and couldn't see for toffee. Wed phone pharmacy and theybsaid stop taking drops and see optician. Saw an optician and said eye looks fine but my eye is so blurry I could read but barely make out the top line. Previously my vision was fine.

Just been to the hospital ( referred by GP) and basically they said either my eye was bad before and I hadn't noticed, as in I need glasses or the salt water has messed with my eye and will take a few weeks for blurriness to go

Surely I'd have noticed if my eye was getting that much worse? She implied I'd been putting off getting glasses, but last sat I could see fine now I struggle even to see the telly and driving (worse riding) is out. In fact id have said my left was better than my right as of last Sat.

So must be the salt. Never heard of this?

Just hope it gets sorted soon as struggling to do anything.

Eye problems can be scary, do what the professionals tell you and no one else.

For riding/driving I have to wear hard lenses cos in my late 20s my cornea changed shape. Scary at first but OK once I got my head around it. They are shit to wear though, especially on dusty roads.

You only get one pair, look after them.

Any pain? I suffer this but luckily it only flair's up every two years or so. Im at the stage where i can tell its coming and get to the doc fast and get some drops what settles it back down. Come to think about it, it must be three years now since last flare up. Ever since i stopped building computers for folk and doing the odd upgrade.

No pain just very blurry. Like sometimes when you wake up and have bleary eyes, but this hasn't cleared. I've gone from being able to see fine to finding even the top line of the eye chart looking blurry within days. I can read a few lines down but its still all blurry. One test had 2 circles you had to focus on, with my left eye I could see 4!

Hope it goes soon its cost me 2 bike rides already. Plus taken to podcast of an evening as cant see the telly well

It was only half a tea spoon in 500mls of water and wiped sparingly along my eyelid, what lots of Internet suggestions said, wrongly in hindsight. I didn't wash my eye in it or anything. And my vision wasn't really effected until nearly 3 days later which is longer than I would have thought.

Thats was my question to them. Also I did it Fri didnt get really bad till Monday. Seemed more linked to the drops than from the salt water to me. The longer I used the drops the worse it got. The worst it was, was Tuesday which was my last day of drops. I must say I didn't leave convinced they know what's up.

If you ever have wax build up in your ear use bicarb. Way =better than that overpriced shit you get out the chemist.

Practice nurses I've seen have always recommended warm olive oil, 4 drops morning and evening, to soften it.

Defo seems a bit better this morning. Interestingly in the show after washing my eyes and they were wet I could see better. Doc did mention my eyes being dry (presumably effected by the salt?) so maybe the moisture is helping. Would get some dry eyes drops, but bit wary of putting anything in there at the moment.

Salt should not be an issue. As someone said earlier, swimming in the sea is not an issue and tears, those things you shed when you see the price of the bike you really want? they contain salt. I used eye drops - 4 different types, before and after my lens replacement operations. I've forgotten the names but the basic ones you can get over the counter in the UK contain witch hazel iirc and should be fine for dry eyes. I used to keep Optrex in my personal 1st aid kit when I was a squaddie.

Yup. I was told about this and I had an ear that was clicking and deffo losing its ability, so bought this from Amazon, which was £1.99 then, and it worked very will, much better than olive oil or earex/otex etc.

It's got a bit better but far from right. I can drive now and distance is easier and being outside isn't bad but screen work (and I work in IT) and more importantly PS4 is an issue and I think led to a massive headache Tuesday (work not PS4 which is a no right now). I was off yesterday and in Thetford forest and doing that I can see ok-ish but Screen stuff is blurry as hell.

I've got another appointment with the optician next week and a triage call with them tomorrow to find out what that will involve. Feel like I'm in a bit of a dead end at the minute as the eye doc at the hospital said (as did the optician) that there is nothing actually wrong with the eye itself. Hospital doc said leave it a few weeks and the eye itself is fine but that's easy for them to say when I can't bloody see. Optician did leave a note that if it hadn't improved she'd do further investigations but I want to know what they are. At the hospital I had a few different scans and pictures taken, dye in my eyes etc.

Hmm. So optician said they would just do an eye test and give me glasses to help. So not worth it yet as hospital said wait 6 to 8 weeks to let eye settle before getting a eye test.

Got a letter from the hospital to GP saying everything is fine. Except not being able to see properly
