Part of what’s changed is that the trade union leaders, who still have some influence in Labour and who have never felt obliged to do anything for non-members, do not represent the workforce because the modern workforce are not union members.

There's over 20% union membership
There were approximately 32.5 million people employed in the United Kingdom in the three months to November 2021 which was just above the same period of 2020.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/281 ... ingdom-uk/
The share of employees that were members of a trade union in the United Kingdom in 2020 was 23.7 percent, an increase of 0.4 percent when compared with 2017. In 1995, the share of employees who were members of a trade union was 32.4 percent, 9 percent more than 2018
.
UK trade union membership levels among employees have risen in each of the past four years (by 17,000 in 2017, 103,000 in 2018, 91,000 in 2019 and 118,000 in 2020) to reach 6.56 million in 2020.

It may be worth considering these numbers against U.K. population, when talking about increasing union membership.

Cummings, the gift that keeps on giving.

Today’s Guardian using extracts from the New Yorker

“Dominic Cummings has said it is his “duty to get rid” of Boris Johnson as prime minister, describing it as “sort of like fixing the drains”.

The prime minister’s former chief adviser called his former boss a “complete fuckwit” whose only preoccupations were “Big Ben’s bongs” and “looking at maps” to “order the building of things” in his honour.”

“Asked if it was fair that he was mounting a campaign to remove his former boss, Cummings said: “What’s fairness got to do with anything? It’s politics. All this is not fair. The fact that someone wins an election doesn’t mean that they should just stay there for years, right? If you’ve got a duffer, if you think someone can’t do the job, or is unfit for the job.

“You know, as he said to me: ‘I’m the fucking king around here and I’m going to do what I want.’ That’s not OK. He’s not the king. He can’t do what he wants. Once you realise someone is operating like that then your duty is to get rid of them, not to just prop them up.”

New Yorker The unabridged interview. A worthwhile read.

Clever chap, I remember when he was the most despised and unbelieved liar in the world, his lies were so bad that people were terribly offended, they even went after his family for building something without planning permission, but now he's turned it around and he's the new super-truthful messiah against Boris - and all the little rats are out trading their souls and integrity to follow the pied piper.
You've been suckered by the above Grauniad piece about Cummings.

Johnson hasn't needed Cummings' help to dig holes for him, he's perfectly capable of digging his own holes for himself.

Says all you need to know really. Cheap 6th form debating strategies and self interest. From his own mouth.

That his former henchman Cummings is prepared to dish the dirt is just icing on the cake.

And in there is a lesson for Boris on what people remember.

Versus…

A bloke that lied about having a party in his garden.

😂😂
Wasn't there some talk about the fact the vaccine was made in Barnard Castle, so he was actually driving around doing back handed deals?

The evidence suggest they are both guilty as hell. Boris has hidden behind this ridiculous report, Cummings brazened it out, admitted and apologised, and the effing PM backed him up on it. If anything, snakey Cummings handled it better. ;)

Which matters more, an unelected advisor lying, or the person supposed to be leading the country through a crisis?

Cummings matters not one jot or tittle. He is an unelected nasty little weasel.
Boris however is a fat lying stoat, who has unfortunately been elected and is the PM of the UK. That matters quite a lot.

The good news is that elected people can be unelected

I just read the 'report'. 'Small earthquake in Chile, nobody hurt' stuff.

Can't see it making the slightest difference.

Of course there was a failure of leadership. He may have been elected Leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party and thereby became Prime Minister but a unwatered fucking houseplant has more leadership qualities than Boris.

it is not possible at present to provide a meaningful report setting out and analysing the extensive factual information I have been able to gather
