Solid tyres ???
Been out today and yet another puncture. The slightest pothole and its a snake bite. 700x23 tyres fitted and they are a deep type of rim, old bike, old wheels. I get as much pressure in as I can.
I've got a newer bike but no mudguards so been on the retro. Now, I've seen these and wondered if there any good. Do they fit well ? Do they spin on rim ? Are they glued ?
In theory they sound brilliant . Any info appreciated, before I dive in.

Re: Solid tyres ???
Rim brakes? Could be worn rims flexing and allowing the tyre to distort too much.

Bikes got to be 15 yo. If these solid things fit the rim's then my prayers will have been answered. No more punctures.

Re: Solid tyres ???
Thanks gents.
I've ordered some so will see. Im getting pretty skilled at money wastage. The bikes only for bimbling the lanes with the wife. My main concern is how secure they fit once fitted. Wouldn't fancy going down a quick hill and they part company.
I shall report back my findings.

Re: Solid tyres ???
I've found that the tolerances on rims and tyres can cause fitting issues, usually (not always) this can be compensated for by inflating the tyre so I'll be interested to know how it goes.

Re: Solid tyres ???
What pump were you using to get the tyres pumped up? A decent track pump would make it easier to get the 100psi or so you really want in 23mm tyres - anything less and you are going to get snake bites! That's the first question.
I really wouldn't fancy solid tyres and punctures are relatively rare with decent tyres and tyre pressures.

Bike pump with valves with lock nut. Pump until it will pump no more. It starts leaking air, I reckon 60/80 psi. But ye, they need to be rock hard ideally.

Re: Solid tyres ???
Unless you are a flyweight 60psi in a 23mm tyre isn't enough. Pick up a decent track pump - the cheaper Decathlon one (£16.99) is good for up to about 110psi and the more expensive one at £24.99 is good up to 145. That'll make a huge difference. https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/900-floor ... 60&c=BLACKDodgy knees wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 3:01 pm Bike pump with valves with lock nut. Re: Solid tyres ???
Well they finally arrived.
The main challenge will be fitting to rims going by the tube vids I've seen. Your supposed to fit little peg things in grooves to stop movement/ rotation, but that won't be happening.
I will leave until the sun warms up and helps me reshape for the fitting and finger tip distruction. tbh, I can already see these sitting in the bottom of my wheely bin, we shall see.

Re: Solid tyres ???
Heat them up in hot water to get the shape back no? Be interesting to know how you get on as we are thinking bikes for when we are away in the camperbus and i would rather leave the bike at the side of the road and walk than piss about fixing punctures. We wont be doing 1000's of miles on them its just camp sites tend to be on the edge of towns so its a handy cheap option.

I think it was a front puncture, so if raining and bored I may have a go tomorrow. If I do pic's will be up.

Re: Solid tyres ???
All done... Does help to heat in hot water first, however it takes so long to get on, it cools.
Off with tyre, tube and spoke band thing, quick clean and the fun starts. I used cable ties to hold tyre to rim as you work around, it's very tight and an old big screwdriver came in handy. I wouldn't want to attempt with new wheels as some damage to rim was had, but its an old knacker and don't matter.
When finally on, you need to fully seat the other side, done with screwdriver and a good push and working around a bit at a time. Once done, bounce tyre around to make sure it's fully seated on both sides.
Quick spin up the road and yes, it's a bit harsh but definitely useable. Its a pub run bike so if it gets nicked outside it ain't a biggy. Needs a longer run really but all in all a success and no more punctures.

Excellent, thanks for that. Sounds perfect for what we want. Meandering up cycle paths and not much more.

Re: Solid tyres ???
Well....I won't get any more punctures, but jeez, it feels twice as heavy. Just done 4 miles to pub, feels like 24. Back in storage for emergencys only.
Possibly better suited for E's.
