The key issue is whether you think that "do as I say not as I do" is acceptable.
I do not.

Re: Boris - how much longer will he suvive?
I ask because of what was happening then:
10 May 2020
Boris Johnson ... said people should continue to "obey the rules on social distancing and to enforce those rules we will increase the fines for the small minority who break them”.
Legal restrictions at the time said you could not leave your house without a reasonable excuse and government guidance was that you could meet one person outside of your household in an outdoor setting while exercising.
20 May 2020
About 100 people were invited by email to “socially distanced drinks in the No 10 garden” on behalf of the prime minister’s principal private secretary, Martin Reynolds.

Not sure I did really. Went out MTB riding, other people in same woods. I may have known and chatted to the odd one while standing there. Meh.
But yeah I arguably broke them. Is that worse or better than 90% of people, I doubt it

But if your job was persuading other people to follow the rules, you'd want to set a bit of an example. Else they wont do it a second time.

I also suspect there's a significant element of people endlessly doubling down on their overly vocal 2016 decision; which turned out to be the wrong one. But they won't lose face regardless.DefTrap wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 8:35 amAnd this is why British politics is broken.Mr Moofo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 8:03 am
Do you think the majority of British / English would feel Corbyn would have deliver furlough, the vaccine programme etc in the same way ?
Granted Boris is a complete knob - with a Prince Andrew sized ego. But who would replace him? - it won't be "I'm a famous lawyer, me" Starmer.
Because the polarisation is such that a massive embarrassment, twat, liar and potential criminal is touted as "better than the (numerous) other guy(s)" who hasn't even had a go
Besides, look at Diane Abbott's shoes. Look at her shoes! What 14 hypocritical parties, years of blatant lies, gross corruption and systematic asset stripping? No-one cares about any of that. Oh, ok then, let's just call it "leftist propaganda". But look at Diane Abott's shoes! Look at her shoes!
Statue defenders, hooooooooooo!

We heard a couple of days ago that the report wouldn't hinder the police investigation so why wasn't it released, now the Met want it edited so it doesn't hinder the investigation.
So who said it was ok to release it, incompetent copper or was that bit made up by someone else?

The upcoming Met report sounds increasingly concerning for Johnson et.al.In a statement on Friday morning, the Met said they had asked Ms Gray to make "minimal reference" reference to events they are investigating.
But they insisted they had not asked for Ms Gray's report to be delayed.
The force added it had not requested "any limitations" on what her report says about gatherings that are not being investigated by its officers.
Will be interesting to see which known 'events' are only briefly mentioned in the Sue Gray report ...

Or has the evidence become more substantial, resulting in this change of viewpoint?Mussels wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 10:17 am We heard a couple of days ago that the report wouldn't hinder the police investigation so why wasn't it released, now the Met want it edited so it doesn't hinder the investigation.

This is desperate, stringing it out and hiding behind "I can't comment while the investigation is ongoing" nonsense. It's the oldest trick in the book "I'd love to be able to tell you the truth but unfortunately my hands are tied"

Its silly because I genuinely think if he'd nipped it in the bud and gone "yeah I had cake, sorry about that, very wrong, deep apologies" it would have stopped the chatter and it would have gone away like all the other wrong, ill-considered and downright vile things he's done. Apology at the right time shows how great you are. And yes it was only cake. And the apology doesn't even need to be sincereMr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 11:56 am All you need to do is string it out jussst long enough and you're golden.
But this just makes him look like a cnut. "Oh look someone decided I was wrong." What a bellend.

Same thing with the dogs flight. He reacted ( ie lied) in response to the loudest bit of internet/media indignation. If he'd just said 'I authorised it, might not have been the right thing to do but there you go'. The dog lovers would have been happy and the others would have found something else to spur them into (keyboard) action within the hour. It's probably an Eton thing, first response is to say whatever saves your skin.DefTrap wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 12:14 pmIts silly because I genuinely think if he'd nipped it in the bud and gone "yeah I had cake, sorry about that, very wrong, deep apologies" it would have stopped the chatter and it would have gone away like all the other wrong, ill-considered and downright vile things he's done. Staggered how squeaky clean his past is. He's too posh to have a grubby polaroid of his smoking a doobie at Uni to crawl out the woodwork. He's a terrible shagger - but so what we're ok with that really? It's almost a well-done on the shagging front.
I feel sorry for the next generation of MPs who will have grown up 100% in the online world and will have hours of footage of themselves doing something regrettable that will follow them forever or is just lurking, waiting for poundshop journalist to dig it out the archive.

As you brought it up. When it comes to the BLM thing ...Potter wrote: ↑Sat Jan 29, 2022 3:35 am It's at least as bad as the American circus now.
What the Labour party haven't figured out is that they're representative of the looney fringes, the 'take a knee' mob, the outrageous militant minority groups, the bitter and twisted, and the people that just want to cause more hassle for the average bloke heading out to work in the morning.
Labour are supposed to be the voice of the decent UK working man, not a violent American criminal, or a woke justice warrior with purple hair, or some shit in Israel that no one cares about. Average working people are sick of all that shit, the Labour party should be pushing those fringes onto the Lib Dems and standing up for the majority, but because they're all Guardian liberals there is a massive gap and Boris seems to have occupied that spot, he's an Eton schoolboy that mocks the PC shite bring spouted today and therefore by default he's the man of the people - how mental is that!
I think I prefer Keir Starmer's "looking really uncomfortable but joining in and trying to empathise" than I do Boris Johnsons "pretending it isn't happening" attitude.
They're both well-off whitey symbolic of the establishment that is fine with inequality but at least Starmer has the balls to try and sympathise with it.
But yeah the Tory media used it to full advantage, why wouldn't they?

Bitter and twisted? Have you ever looked at the Daily Mail btl contributions? They make most of the Guardian commentariat sound like they're on happy pills.
