Spad luggage - anyone used it?
I need some luggage for the bike, and I fancy getting panniers and a modest size top box.
Givi do some that look good, modest size (it's a smallish bike) but they are semi-soft zip close that are not entirely waterproof, which strikes me as being less than good.
Spad also do a similar size/shape set in hard plastic, with fittings for my bike, all alleged to be waterproof.
I know nothing of Spad, any comments, good or bad, before I part with several £100s.

Shad makes the OEM seats for Triumph iirc.
Never had any luggage from them. I think that Kappa are the budget version of Givi (it was a business started for Mr Givi's daughter iirc).

I've got some SHAD soft pannier frames on order through Amazon for my GSX, I'll let you know if they're any good if I ever get them

I was looking at those for the XJ6... pricey for a couple of bits of metal and a bracket, but unfortunately, they don't seem to fit with the Yamaha rack I have on the bike.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 9:39 am I've got some SHAD soft pannier frames on order through Amazon for my GSX, I'll let you know if they're any good if I ever get them

Re: Spad luggage - anyone used it?
Aren't SHAD just the rebrand of someone else?
(ie, all products are actually manufactured in China/Indonesia and the owner brand allows* the foreign maker to market the same product under their own brand-name at lower prices)
* well - 'allows' - sometimes they don't even know about it, sometimes they know but don't care (IP protection in China is virtually non-existent), sometimes they're happy for it to happen for their own reasons).

They are £70ish on Amazon, and I had an Amazon voucher for £20, so £50 for me.The Spin Doctor wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 9:52 amI was looking at those for the XJ6... pricey for a couple of bits of metal and a bracket, but unfortunately, they don't seem to fit with the Yamaha rack I have on the bike.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 9:39 am I've got some SHAD soft pannier frames on order through Amazon for my GSX, I'll let you know if they're any good if I ever get them
I just want something to hold my throw overs in place and out of the back wheel, I made a set for my FZ, but they look a lot like a load of old Meccano bolted to the pillion peg hangers and grabrail.

Re: Spad luggage - anyone used it?
Exactly the reason I wanted some. Years ago, I got a plumbing mate to bend me up some tubing. Attached to the subframe under the bodywork with some jubilee clips. Re: Spad luggage - anyone used it?
I saw this in Screwfix the other day and wondered about getting it for a one for a occasional use /once a year on the old rack I'll fit to the Le Mans. A bit of security for my silk pant and camp stove.

Get one of their click-on trolleys and you've got roller luggage

I've seen a couple of bikes in London with tool-chest topboxes in the past.GuzziPaul wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 10:36 pm I saw this in Screwfix the other day and wondered about getting it for a one for a occasional use /once a year on the old rack I'll fit to the Le Mans. The only real difference could be that in the event of a spill a Givi might be less likely to spoil open?

Not IME. I had a Givi topbox where the lock was iffy. A smart blow would usually have it flying open.Rockburner wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 8:51 am I've seen a couple of bikes in London with tool-chest topboxes in the past.

Re: Spad luggage - anyone used it?
Probably need to put a drain hole in it and use dry bags for your kit though. Might keep the water out for a while but I don't think they'll be as watertight as a proper top-box. (Screwfix have/had some cheaper Stanley Fatmax boxes - bought a stack of 3, on wheels for the price of that Dewalt in the Jan sale).GuzziPaul wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 10:36 pm I saw this in Screwfix the other day and wondered about getting it for a one for a occasional use /once a year on the old rack I'll fit to the Le Mans.
