Can I use push-fit for heating oil pipe?

Post by Kneerly Down »

We have a bit of heating oil pipework to the Esse range that needs replacing.
Trouble is I don't have any 10mm pipe to hand.
I do have 2 15-10mm pushfit connectors and 15mm pipe.

Is it okay to use the pushfit connectors (JG speedfit IIRC) with heating oil (kerosene) or will it cause issues with the sealing rings?

Thanks

I wouldn't do it, but there's no science behind that answer

I wouldn’t either. I think they’re only designed for water.

Pretty sure kerosene will swell and damage the seals.

I wouldn't do it either. What's the worst that can happen? The joint fails, you drop the contents of your oil tank on the floor, someone notices then it's fire brigade for a clean up and the environment agency for an inquest, with a very large fine.

Plumbers grease is silicon based as petroleum products degrade the seals, it may work short term but I'd only use it as an emergency measure.

I'll take all those as a 'NO' then! ;)
Thanks.
