The driver appears to have deliberately killed someone. They’re right to charge him with murder, at an early stage.

Self defence is a defence against a charge.

If the facts are as black and white as the story says then he should be decorated for bravery.

He may be, eventually.

I think he has a couple of defence strategies available.

Against a murder charge he can admit to using the car to try and prevent the knife attack but certainly didn't mean to kill the guy - just stop him. That could drop the murder charge down to manslaughter.

Self defence is another and the most likely option but whatever the final charge and whatever the CPS put up as evidence there's not many juries would convict him in my opinion.

There is no shortage of possibilities.

Perhaps the stabber no longer had a weapon and was leaving the scene.

Perhaps the car driver knew the stabber and had a grudge against him.

Let’s hope the car driver was smart enough to say nothing to the police, without a lawyer.

For instance, it would be really stupid to tell them “I ran him over because….” That sort of statement would remove the possibility of it being an accident.

Yes, but there is allowance for preventing crime.

Common sense might favour investigating first, and arresting people when the facts are known.

If it is as clear cut as sugested he probably has a good defence, but being arrested for murder is no joke.

They may well. But in the meantime, he's been arrested for murder, and if charged, will spend a year or so on remand (probably losing his job and likely his house) and then have the stress of the trial.

Hopefully it's a big 'if' that he will get charged.
