Old Bike Still Running
I owned this heap o shite some 17 years ago. I rode it like i stole it for a good 10 month. Work was 25 miles away and 95% of that was done at how ever fast i could get it. Engine blew up racing a Mondeo sporty thing round the Edinburgh bypass. Put another in and only service it go was new oil. It ran so that was good enough. Rode that like last engine but that blow up after three month so sold it for £100. Out of curiosity i was checking if it was still alive and it only is. Heap o shite was covered in rust also
For some reason i am amazed its still alive.
You got a old nail still on the road?

Re: Old Bike Still Running
Appears my old courier 1984 XS400 is still registered but hasnt been taxed since 2012 and last changed owners in 2011
Bit surprised as i sold it in 1989 to a breakers shop in Nottingham as a non running spares machine
Its the only one i know the reg number of apart from my ZX636B1H which is also still registered but SORN and untaxed since 2015

Re: Old Bike Still Running
I'd rather not know.
People end up doing things like putting lextek exhausts on them !
In truth, I don't know any

Re: Old Bike Still Running
I only remember my first GSXR1000.
Reg May 2001
On SORN.
MOT expired 31st March 2012
Date of last V5C (logbook) issued 26 October 2016
A bit strange that timeline. But the bike was absolutely shagged when I sold it in 2003. It had 30,000 miles on it and probably 50 trackdays

Re: Old Bike Still Running
Many of them will be sitting at the back of garages awaiting a big clear out. I had several SORNed wrecks that I had cannibalised for courier bike / instructor bike spares over the years - they went in the skip when I moved.

Re: Old Bike Still Running
Old 1985 GPz i bought and sold to a guy in London for courier work. I was thinking he probably has killed that by now but maybe not Its on SORN and MOT ran out in Nov 2020 but changed hands in Jan 2021 and colour changed back to red. Might be getting restored to original as i ratted it
How it looked (Ish) when i bought it
and when i sold it

Re: Old Bike Still Running
Mine & my brothers old Morini 500 is still out there and the only other bikes I can remember the numbers of expired soon after I got shot of them, I know my xt250 got nicked in 86 & the next owner of my xl500 probably got bored of its intermittent starting issues and gave up in 88

Re: Old Bike Still Running
My z550D1 - bought in approx 1993 (first 'big bike', lolz, and when I knew sweet FA about mechanics). It was cheap, it was rough, it was local. In retrospect it was just really horrible. Commuted on it for a few years, 'toured' on it once, holed a piston when a carb flap got sucked into the engine.
Eventually it was retired to the shed, was never the same again. i.e. actually running.
It moved with me to my new place in about 2002 and not long after I gave it to a friend.
According to the website it's still SORNd somewhere - I wonder if it's still languishing in -his- shed?, still waiting for that rebuild.

I was riding it on the road (with an MOT!) up until 2020.

Re: Old Bike Still Running
First two I tried are so old they have no record of them but I know one of them ended in bits at a scrap yard in the days when nobody cared about stuff like that. Looks like my 1979 CX500 died in 1993. I'm surprised that the registration hasn't been reissued though as it ended with 500V.

My first proper bike, a 1989 Honda CB-1, was still MOT'd as of 2017. Currently SORNd.

Nope. I can't find a single one still taxed and on the road.
There are loads I don't remember the reg,so who knows.

Re: Old Bike Still Running
Blimey my old GPz305 which I sold to scrapper in 2009 had an MOT until June 2021 - now sorn. It needed a new generator and belt, had a knee sized dent in the tank and had started to rot when I floggged it, god knows why anyone would want to repair it
