Everybody is allowed to pay more tax than they are legally obliged to pay. It isn't against the law to give money to HMRC or the IRS*. How much extra do these particular millionaires currently pay? That should give us a measure of how serious they are while also giving us a measure of how cynical you are.

How many people really think the government knows better than them how to spend their money?

* I'm not sure about other countries but I doubt if it's against the law anywhere.

All they have to do is spend their money, almost anything they buy will have some sort of sales tax.

Not content with being rich, she wants fame and limelight as well.
There is nothing stopping her imposing a ceiling on the money in her bank and giving the rest away, quietly.

...

If I got into power tomorrow I'd take all their money off them and leave them with less than a million, then see what they have to say.
They'd call you a socialist or worse, and say 'bye bye' as they took their millions abroad, sadly. Kennedy's line about what they can do for their country doesn't hold much weight.

I'm happy with it though, I don't think anyone needs more than a million quid in the bank and my vow has always been that I don't want to be a tattooed millionaire (c. Bruce Dickenson). Once it gets to that point you should give it to your kids and then once they have 999k the rest MUST be given away or you face ten years in a Cat A prison.

How do you measure the £million? You can have a £billions in assets and 4d in the bank or, even better, owe the bank a wedge. It's not that unusual to rack up a pension fund pot of £1M. Every time you get close to the limit you could just buy something/spend it anyway. What happens if you sell a house and temporarily have the cash pending buying another place? You could crank up death duty and put a crimp on dodges like trust funds I suppose, that seemed to squeeze the stately home owning families.

Complete aside, I wonder what the carbon tax is on a space launch for a Bezos/Beardie type jolly?
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.

"If you got in power..." But you're not in power. Just look at how governments spend the money they already take from us and tell me that you don't think they'd also waste a large portion of any extra money they received.

But just in case anybody here is feeling the weight of all that money and wants to contribute:

“Would you like anything in it?”

I suppose some biological terms might be NSFW in big writing.

Spoiler

Giles Tippett, prosecuting, told the two magistrates overseeing the hearing that the victim discovered a substance at the bottom of her cup when she finished the drink given to her by the defendant.

Mr Tippett said the incident was reported to the police three days later and a laboratory test confirmed the substance was "semen that related to the doctor".

This story popped up and it could be used by some to make a point.
But this bit somewhat irked me :(

In July, a judge ordered him to pay £100,000 to a refugee schoolboy he had wrongly accused of attacking a girl.

He also owes an estimated £1.5m in legal costs for the boy's lawyers.

Fark. I bet the victim is bemused.

Women's state pension shortfalls. A total of 134,000 pensioners missed out on their full entitlement owing to errors at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) dating back to 1985. Staff costs in correcting mistakes by the end of 2023 are expected to reach more than £24m.

My Mum falls into one of the categories that means she has probably been underpaid since she her retirement age in 2009. I've phoned DWP and they have a message that says she doesn't have to do anything and she will be contacted. Some people won't be contacted until 2023 - great, her life expectancy is 2 months. I've not looked into if fully but believe we (her family) can receive it for her but that's not the 'effin' point, I'm sure she would have liked to have spent it herself :angry-cussingblack:

Netflix says rivals hit growth

The phrase "No shit, Sherlock" is the first thing that springs to mind.

Alexa down in the UK

I wondered why the radio didn't come on this morning as usual. I just thought she was in one of those moods.
"Alexa, are you alright?"
"I'm FINE"
"OK"
"Hrumph"

And, @Trinity765 sorry to hear about your Mum.

Carlow body: Inquiry after 'dead man' brought into post office

An investigation has begun after claims that the body of a dead man was taken into Irish post office in an attempt to claim his pension.

Reports suggest a deceased pensioner was "propped up by two men" as his body was carried into the building in County Carlow, according to the Irish Times.

It said the two men "dropped" the body and fled when staff questioned them.

Gardaí (Irish police) are investigating the circumstances surrounding the "unexplained death of an elderly male".
