And here's in a nutshell why i have both a slower motorbike (and a quiet exhaust) along with why i ride MTB way way more than motorbikes.

So many of my favourite roads used to be NSL and are now 40-50. Whilst that doesn't mean i go that much slower on many, it does mean the consequences are higher potentially. With MTB i can ride as flat out as i humanly can.... but with no consequence (unless i crash of course)

And what will the average speed be ? 60 mph?

Just a few things:
Loomies has been shit for a while
People ride like absolute knobs down that road, so I guess if you actually live there, seeing later day Valentino Rossis riding badly, near misses etc might piss you off
There seems to be a need to exit Loomies with as much noise as possible as those you are a first responder on the way to a major accident.
Really loud pipes fuck local people off
I bet the Hants police also get fed up with scrapping people up off the road.

Oxfordshire changed all of Oxfordshire to 50 limit about 8 years go. That really was pointless.

I live in Locksbottom, the start of the May Day run down the A21 to Hastings. I did it once years back and swore never again. The level of stupidity and endangerment to lives, both of the idiots themselves, the people simply taking part in the run and those who just happened to be there, was staggering. I understand that the route is now very heavily policed on run.

Twisty B roads is where the funs at. To make the A49 south of Shrewsbury any fun, you'd need to be doing 100 +.

And that is the root of the issue. Down this way we have Bury Hill on the A29. The behaviour of bikers as already got it limited to 50 mph ( which no-one does)
And on their FB page they constantly complain about the locals in the village coming out with a speed gun etc etc.
It's easy, all, just do 50 through the village...

As pointed out above, B roads are much more fun and there's plenty of them around down here and you don't get the wankers every Wednesday night charging up and down to Loomies.

It's the same everywhere. My Sunday blat was out on one of the Essex peninsulas, but for some strange reason the pretty dull "Burnham Bends" became a magnet for bikers? Now the area is often full of Plod with speed cameras and the heavy traffic makes it pointless anyway, but still bikers come rattling windows as they blast through the villages etc.

I got stopped and given a good talking to by a gendarme doing a fast descent of one of the Tour de France climbs in the Pyrenees. Got the MTB up to 50 mph

Only some of the A roads... plenty of B's and minor roads to ride at decent speeds. I use many of the ones round Oxford for training, and plenty of nationals.

As it happens, the reason for lowing the limit was to reduce the 40 / 60 split between trucks and cars / bikes on the busier A roads, and thus limit suicidal overtakes because people thought they were "being held up". I understand it's been a reasonably successful strategy and raising the HGV limit to 50 improved things further.
