But I do think the god-awful Boris/Corbyn dilemma was brought about by the nosedive of any even remotely credible/visible third party and the way the meeja leapt upon the electorate polarisation of the Brexit decision to paint their preferred candidate as good vs evil.

Politics in the UK is in a very dire place - polarisation, with large groups believing that people do not have a right to a different opinion to them, the rise of the "offended by everything", selective media streams, the TV media / Papers getting more polarised one way or another and very, very low grade politicians.

I think we have become the USA.

I think you could draw various similarities, especially if you throw Brexit in as well.

I reckon we could agree though, that neither Boris nor Hitler are/were in place because they're great, it's a situational tragedy, bought along by the apparent lack of a palatable alternative.

I keep saying it, but why oh why won't Labour put a couple of decent candidates in, then pile on the pressure, the public would swing wildly and the tories would have to go for a vote of no confidence.
If a general election was forced I could possibly see a protest vote putting Starmer in, but I'm not sure it's that bad yet.

I'm not really sure what would be considered a decent candidate anymore. The public seem to be swayed by characters rather than qualities, someone who can be a bit outrageous, outspoken, a bit of a lad, a good laugh down the pub etc. Decent candidate seems less and less likely to equate to decent PM. I reckon if Boris went back to being 'more Boris', and instead of the apologetic whining said "Yeah we had a few beers in the garden, but didn't we all?" with a big grin while holding a pint, he'd be the toast of the working class. He'd no doubt be out of a job as well, though
