The vote to exit the EU was nearly 6 years ago, you really do need to start living in the present.

I know. You’d think it would have been sorted by now.

Assumptions are the mother of all fuckups. Weren't the wars of empire won on the playing fields there?
They prolly thought the toff would know a party when he saw one, and not comb his hair with a balloon. Its generations of conditioning. Undone.

Imagine how bad Hitler's opposition must have been? ;)

I do. The similarity of the Boris v Corbyn dynamic is frankly staggering.

I was joking of course ..

But I do think the god-awful Boris/Corbyn dilemma was brought about by the nosedive of any even remotely credible/visible third party and the way the meeja leapt upon the electorate polarisation of the Brexit decision to paint their preferred candidate as good vs evil.

Politics in the UK is in a very dire place - polarisation, with large groups believing that people do not have a right to a different opinion to them, the rise of the "offended by everything", selective media streams, the TV media / Papers getting more polarised one way or another and very, very low grade politicians.

I think we have become the USA. :(

I think you could draw various similarities, especially if you throw Brexit in as well.

I reckon we could agree though, that neither Boris nor Hitler are/were in place because they're great, it's a situational tragedy, bought along by the apparent lack of a palatable alternative.
Brexit as what, the treaty of Versailles? You should mind your head in that heat.

I keep saying it, but why oh why won't Labour put a couple of decent candidates in, then pile on the pressure, the public would swing wildly and the tories would have to go for a vote of no confidence.
If a general election was forced I could possibly see a protest vote putting Starmer in, but I'm not sure it's that bad yet.
I'm not really sure what would be considered a decent candidate anymore. The public seem to be swayed by characters rather than qualities, someone who can be a bit outrageous, outspoken, a bit of a lad, a good laugh down the pub etc. Decent candidate seems less and less likely to equate to decent PM. I reckon if Boris went back to being 'more Boris', and instead of the apologetic whining said "Yeah we had a few beers in the garden, but didn't we all?" with a big grin while holding a pint, he'd be the toast of the working class. He'd no doubt be out of a job as well, though :D

the agreement where the various countries agreed to recognise Germany as an actual power and defined it's borders, I think it begins with an L

That was a somewhat flexible definition of borders

Blimey! Ones defected, David Davis has said 'For god's sake go', someone has suggested his briefings are based on deciding whether to admit being stupid or being a liar or some such but, most unusual of all, Starmer got a half decent joke in. 'Have the whips told your MPs to bring their own boos?' He'll be on Have I Got News For You before long! :

“In the name of God, go!”

It was first spoken by Oliver *Cromwell in 1653 when forcibly ejecting the remaining members of the *Long Parliament: 'You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!'
