Getting older

Post by Bustaspoke »

I notice me & my mates who still ride have slowed over the years but we still enjoy motorcycling as much as we did in our youth.
The subject of conversation is probably more focused on comfort than performance these days, heated grips & ADV style bikes anyone? :D

I've still got the buzz. If I was still in UK I'd still be instructing and enjoying silly speeds.
I'm slowing a bit on the road and sometimes the kids drop me when they get daft.

But now love enduro and fall off everytime we go out :D

I'm enjoying it. While I still can :)

I'm a but odd, in that the track days I did left me cold. I much prefer the getting somewhere, seeing places, stopping to take in a view (and empty bladder these days) and generally just bimbling about.

All that rushing around....what's the hurry?

It's an amazing adrenaline buzz. 130 with knee on the floor is awesome 👌

I got more time now the girls are getting older and more money to spend on bikes and I'm getting quicker (merely slow instead of dog slow) so it's all good. I've only found myself genuinely wondering how to get back up again in the garage a couple of times when my knees wouldn't cooperate.

When SinLaw was doing a lot of workshop stuff, we bought her one of these:

She was scathing. Until she used it.

My work area is carpeted so not so good for me. And I still have jobs when I need to get on the floor.

I've got an electric hoist from aldi years ago, I may start attaching it to a strap under my arms so I can lift myself up after looking for dropped nuts.

You'll need a jock strap and tighter underwear for that.

And a serious solution: magnetonastick. I have a jobbie like an old telescopic car aerial with a magnetic tip. Great for fishing lost bits out of inaccessible nooks.

Get a hoist, or magnetonastick, to pick it up? ;)

I was late getting to the track party cos none of my mates did them. I really enjoy the adrenaline of riding fast at my happy limits, but on the roads these days you've got to be so bloody careful, track is best.

But I also enjoy bimbling on the crf up the hills and lanes. 2 wheels is all good. 👍

I've got old, I bought a GSXS rather than a GSXR, a GSXR would cripple my knackered knees and back in 20 minutes of riding it, I'm not convinced I've slowed down much though, I'm still a twat, but now a comfy twat.

Things have to change in keeping with age for at least two reasons.

1. Reaction times are slower.

2. Bones past 40 don't bounce or heal as well as young bones.

You need to figure out what you want from bikes and what you enjoy. Honesty is the key here.

One of my mates has ridden sportsbikes for decades and refuses to consider other types of bikes, even though I'd bet he'd enjoy riding even more. He's fat and fucked. The state of him heaving himself into position on a bike is painful to watch. He says when he can't get his leg over a sports machine,he'll pack bikes in. That's just daft to me.

I'm fortunate enough to be in better shape than him,but I went away from his type of bike mainly for reason 2.

Mined ewe,I don't think I'll ever be old enough to spend money on an adventure bike. I'd ride a mobility scooter first. :P
