On the trail tool storage, what do you use?

Post by weeksy »

Just thinking about an issue yesterday our in the trail and I'd not taken the canelbak as it's a bit bulky. Only needed a 4mm Allen key but borrowed one from a mate who has his stashed in his steerer tube.

Was looking at this Lezyne version in the handlebars

So, what do you do? Bike mounted, bag?

My specialized has a small tool kit in the bottom of the bottle holder, it’s now on my trek as it’s a handy kit to have. However I’ve always got my backpack as it has my back protector built in.

You can also get ones that fit in the crank spindle. Mrs M's Levo has a mini tool that sits in a spring loaded pod in the steerer which has proved very useful at times, saving the need to go delving into the camelbak.

I do prefer a backpack though as I carry all manner of useless tat in there that is rarely used, from a big multitool, a leatherman, spare tube and anchovy kit as well as pump, dog poo bags, tangfastics, beer tokens, spare chain link, the hydration bit also serves a an unofficial back protector. If we are doing a pub stop I usually take a spare dry base layer as well to put on.

If I don't take it you can bet that's the ride I'll have a mechanical or puncture the anchovy won't fix.

"Especially the lies."

Again last night i wanted a multi-tool and didn't have it... I'd left the bag at home after washing it the day before... So anyway.... bought one of these.
